Look, I've lived my entire adult (and I use that term graciously) life waiting for the big plague. Can we just get it over with?

Let's stop washing our hands, covering our mouths, and any of the other things we do to stop the spread of diseases.

Require a two-handed, clasping and kneading handshake with an accompanying raspy cough as a proper greeting.

Let's just get on with it! I figure if I'm lucky enough to live through it, the commute to work will be easy peasy.

I just got back from a vacation, and while in the hotel one night I was flipping channels, and stumbled across Fox News. They had some talking head on there, and I only stayed long enough to hear him say "...so, to put it simply, you cannot get MERS. You won't get it, so stop worrying."

I hope his increasingly elderly, obese, Hoveround-bound, vaccine-rejecting audience don't have to use a hospital soon.

Yeah, if it hits China and spreads like wildfire... I think we'll all agree that a <30% mortality rate (especially given the population density, the diet, and the overall compormised immune systems of the chinese what with their epic pollution) will create a health crisis unlike anything seen before. The bodies will be piling up like kindling.) This is going to be ugly beyond imagining. God help the asian pacific rim countries. I mean this sincerely, it's going to be a nightmare... I can't even imagine what it might do to India.

Dude, seriously... I know it's "cool" to joke about this shiat sometimes... but this is not one of them. a 30% mortality rate is really really frightening... and that's usually among healthy adults, not the weak or infirm. I mean seriously, think about it like this, look at yourself, then look at 1 person to your left and 1 person to the right. Now imagine that in a months time 1 person in every 3 in the WORLD dies. Just poof. gone. The impact would be massive. Whole nations could collapse, The damage and loss of skills and knowledge (not to mention damage to economy as the market is suddenly glutted with oversupply of goods intended for 33% more population) would be sweeping.

And you know that the 30% mortality rate would leap to 50 or higher for the poor or those with compromised immune systems (hello AIDS riddled Africa) The sheer loss of life would be staggering.

The damage it could do to india (because of the population density and widespread sanitary challenges among the poorer population, combined with the temperature and environment would be horrific. What it might do to use here in the US is frightening as well.  Seriously man, this is time not to joke and instead take a hard look at our own preparedness for a plague like this hitting. When the Spanish Flu hit they didn't have the fast transport we have today. If they had the global pandemic could have been a LOT worse.

I think it's more like, while you're in there, wash 'em.  How often do you go into the bathroom without the express purpose of voiding bowels or bladder?  I don't often enter one just to wash my hands, unless I am visiting a hospital, or just did a bunch of dirty work.

I think that, if you are going to wash your hands on the bathroom trip to pee, you should probably wash them before you touch your penis.

Bell-fan:  Now imagine that in a months time 1 person in every 3 in the WORLD dies. Just poof. gone.

1/3 of the people I see every day are a complete and utter waste of skin so this is a tempting dream,  but we would never begin to approach that number in the real world.  When you say 1 in 3 dies, you are assuming that 100% of the population will become infected.  There will be a portion of the population that is simply not susceptible to the virus - they won't catch it, transmit it, or die from it.  They will, in fact, help contribute to the death of the virus by skewing the herd immunity numbers towards the good.  With MERS the basic reproductive rate (R0) is estimated to be approximately .69 and anything with a R0 of below 1 results in the die out of the virus because it does not spread easily enough to stay alive.    Hell... we have nearly caused extinction in much tougher bugs than this.  Measles had an R0 of 12 and Smallpox was a 7.  This bug does not have what it takes to be a full on pandemic.

Your fear mongering, misinformed drivel today will ultimately lead to slower uptake of information when a true problem arises because people will be tired of hearing that the sky is falling.  Please go take a Valium and a nap.  This bug is not the planet killer.

That's fine if you want to be all anal about getting a germ on your skin.

While you are at it, how about being sensitive to other peoples desires to not have your penis germs on their skin via your handshake, and wash your hands when you are done using your penis.
