I have a few friends that throw them fairly regularly in Austin; they don't play much "disco" per say, but it's excuse enough for people to dress up in ridiculous retro costumes and get drunk on roller skates.

Women were most beautiful in the 1970's. The previous decade had unshackled them sexually and convinced them to wear much less clothing, but they hadn't yet become convinced that they need plastic surgery to be attractive. It was truly a golden era.

No roller skating in this video, but here are some real women of the 1970s in Stevie Wonder's Boogie On Reggae Woman.

my buddy has a place in pittsburgh, with a huge hardwood floor room, that he holds "roller boogies" in.  it's old school skates, that he rents out to people, and they "boogie" all night.  it's actually pretty neat.

do roller discos serve alcohol?

Working class white people hated disco because it represented everything they hated about the times:    whites fraternizing with blacks, homosexual acceptance, and a growing wealth divide epitomized by the cocaine and glamor excess of Studio 54 and its contemporaries juxtaposed with the obvious decline of US manufacturing jobs.

Oh, yeah, I was king of the roller disco back in the day. Let me tell you, there were some fine ladies.

Of course nowadays, you're trying to pack a 300 pound 10th grader into one of those outfits, and let me ask what the hell she is going to do when she tries to skate and stare at her zombie screen the entire time?

It's like watching a drunken hog on ice.

NIGHT!

I remember that Friday night high school dances were ruined by songs like this one in late '79 (whoever was in charge of the music played the hell out of that one. Got on mah nerves). The roller disco nuts took over the gym floor, the rest of us complained, and roller skates were eventually banned from the gym.

/yes, I know, I'm freakin' old

Disco in the 70's and 80's was a target rich environment.  Even a guy like Goose could get laid.

Enjoyed roller skating, fairly cheap family night out to socialize with others. I'd bust my ass and hip now.

Somehow I don't feel like the South Side rednecks tearing up Comiskey had the money for coke in 1979.  It was a pretty expensive product then compared to now.
