/we decided that diatomaceous earth is recommended as an insect killer not because of its tiny razor-like facets but because it contains arsenic. I may be slow but I'm not stupid.
/diatomaceous earth is used to filter beer that isn't correctly brewed

Lots of breweries use DE for filtering.  It doesn't mean the beer was "incorrectly brewed."  Some use other mediums like polypropylene or even carbon, others use a centrifuge.  Although many don't filter at all.  A good cold crash in the bite tank will clear up a beer just fine in a day or two if fining agents were used.
