"If they knew where they were, I certainly would send in U.S. troops to rescue them, in a New York minute I would, without permission of the host country," McCain told The Daily Beast Tuesday.

Remember when McCain slammed Obama and said you don't broadcast and say that you're going to violate a friendly nation's sovereignty?  No?  Neither does he.

2014-05-14 10:00:10 AM
FTFA: He said that the United Nations charter authorized military intervention on behalf of the girls because their abduction rose to the level of "crimes against humanity."  "The United Nations Charter recognized crimes against humanity, this fits into the category of crimes against humanity, and that gives any nation the license if they can to stop a crime against humanity, the same reason we should have if we could have freed the people at Dachau or Auschwitz," McCain said.

Apart from the fact that the UN Charter doesn't mention anything of the sort and apart from the fact that he's disrespecting an allied President, I agree with him. A mass abduction is a crime against humanity and anyone who can stop it while its happening should be able to do under the international doctrine of hot pursuit, as Ralph Nader argued regarding 9/11. But there is no need to insult the President of Nigeria. That doesn't do anyone any good and potentially complicates the entire effort.

A very Gingrichian model of thinking.

Say you'd do the opposite of whatever Obama is doing, it doesn't matter how many time you contradict yourself.

Goodluck Jonathan sounds like the kind of guy who would put General Butt Naked in charge of the army.

If it means putting boots on the grounds somewhere McCain is going to be in favor of it.

Oh, look, a camera and a microphone. Let me see what I can see to get some airtime. Olde thyme clockwork in skull starts to churn.

Then there's that.

I'm not against taking action.  I just don't want to hear about it from that old fart.  And, you know, the hypocrisy.

2014-05-14 10:25:08 AM
I think I'm going to refer to John McCain as "some guy named John McCain" from now on.  That was just rude.

2014-05-14 10:25:43 AM
A military operation like this would more than likely get those girls killed.  Now wouldn't that make for great TV on the nightly news?  It would certainly give the GOP more things to complain about.

2014-05-14 10:26:24 AM
hahha goodluck johnathan is a silly name

black people, am i right

2014-05-14 10:28:01 AM
I wouldn't be surprised if, once the girls are located, all the guys holding them end up dead all quiet-like in the middle of the night and the girls are returned home.

Nah, let's just hold a press conference, let them know we're coming so they can scatter to the four wins, piss off the Nigerian government, and show the world that we're just a bunch of chest-thumpers. Yeah, that's better, John. Much better.

2014-05-14 10:28:40 AM
And that, folks, is why we elected the black guy.

Indeed. And given that the GOP is willing to make backroom deals with terrorists for election gains, is it fair to speculate that McCain is coordinating with Boko Haram? He's already running a propaganda op against a democratically elected president.

I'm only asking questions.

I heart this headline.

I was told we elected the bla guy because we believed we would get free rainbow farting unicorns?

2014-05-14 10:31:43 AM
Why even report this?  If there's a country in the news for any reason, McCain wants to spend tax money sending troops there.  It's automatic.  You might say - a knee-jerk response.

McCain Yesterday
"If you are a country and you're trying to gain the support of another country, then you want to do everything you can that they would act in a cooperative fashion," he added. "When you announce that you're going to launch an attack into another country, it's pretty obvious that you have the effect that it had in Pakistan: It turns public opinion against us."

McCain Today
"I would not be involved in the niceties of getting the Nigerian government to agree, because if we did rescue these people, there would be nothing but gratitude from the Nigerian government, such as it is," he said.

2014-05-14 10:32:48 AM
So we rescue those girls and bring them back to America? Not sure they or their parents would appreciate that solution.

McCain, "logically consistent" since 2008.

The U.N. Charter does not explicitly mention crimes against humanity.

Facts have a well-known liberal bias.

Right and if it went to shiat and everyone died there would be now way that anyone would be upset about that. The US illegaly sending troops into another country and causing the deaths of 200 schoolgirls. (I am aware that in that situation Boko Haram would be responsible for the girls deaths and the US partially responsible but the world and Nigerians would not see it that way).

Nuh-uh not if we send in the A-Team. IRL is just like on TV right? This "conducting intelligence gathering and finding the least lethal way of recovering these girls" is for boring queers who watch PBS, amiright kids? We should go in blasting harhar USA! USA! USA! and send in Sgt. Slaughter and Hacksaw Jim Dugan for good measure!
/some asshole is posting something like this on Facebook, you knowz it

There was a time we looked to people with long histories and experience in government as our "elder statesmen," and called upon their skills and expertise to guide us in times of crisis.

In McCain's case we should hide him in the basement like a crazy uncle who's lost bowel control.

2014-05-14 10:48:06 AM
If McCain had been elected we would be starting World War IV by now.

Is there any problem anywhere in the world for which McCain doesn't think US military intervention is the solution?

When your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

More like time to put him out to pasture, having him as an elected official is getting to be embarrassing for all of us- not that he ever really deserved his unearned rep as a "maverick" or an elder statesman for anything more than a carton of oatmeal.

2014-05-14 10:53:04 AM
Surely we would be greeted as these girls liberators.

I've noticed that our trek towards a color-blind society seems to have taken a sharp turn since we elected a President who's Black. His race seems to be the only defining characteristic people on the left mention when they talk about him, "The Black guy". Personally, I think of him as "Screwed up the healthcare system guy", so I guess yours has the virtue of being more concise. But when we elect more Black presidents, you're going to have to qualify which "The Black guy" you're talking about, while any mention of "Screwed up the healthcare system guy" will always yield the result Barack Obama.

If you were President, how would you be handling this?

2014-05-14 11:02:43 AM
Seems also that many Nigerians are fed up with the Government's utter lack of action and are taking to the jungles to kill these morons themselves. God knows they have enough weapons to do it. I think Boko Haram didn't fully think their cunning plan through. The Nigerian Government? Corrupt as hell. The Nigerian people? Heavily armed and willing to defend themselves if provoked enough.

2014-05-14 11:02:49 AM
Of course we know the real solution McCain would like to advocate: "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Namibia"

Thank God no one related to McCain was the governor of an electoral vote-rich state and he didn't get
the Presidency.

Putin would be curled up in Mama Palin's lap lazing away his afternoons, because if he so much as farted audibly, she'd kick his ass to Vladivostok and back.

Iran would have become a capitalist Jeffersonian democratic republic after John McCain's harsh stare at a UN summit.

Peace between Israel and no one would be achieved when the US military bombs the shiat out of Gaza, based on intelligence that Gazans were behind the Syrian civil war. President McCain had warned the nation about the risk of a smoking hookah coming in the shape of a mushroom omelet, and VPalin assured the nation we'd "Oh for sure be greetertated as conservativerators of the great kingdom of Syriana, despite George Clooney's liberalism."

The press would be crowing about the 50 millionth job created since 20JAN2009 due to the "No Minimum Wage or Child Labor Law Act of 2010", in 200-charcter "minicles" written by 4th graders. (Few people notice a difference in quality.)

I'm fairly certain there are segments on the right who are hoping for this outcome, solely because it will make Obama look bad.
