The New York Daily News reported Tuesday that Ed Cox, who is married to Nixon's daughter Tricia, lives in Manhattan but votes on Long Island, raising the ire of Democrats.

There's a joke here somewhere about a couple of Cox, but for the life of me I can't think what it is.

Yes, but it's okay when Republicans do it!

Or, you known, conservative pundits.

Is this one of those things voter IDs would fix?

Make voter fraud a felony with a ten year minimum sentence.

Republicans: Hey now, let's not go overboard.

This is all Republican hypocrisy. Of course it should be OK for Mr. Cox to vote absentee or for that matter in person as long as he votes once. Ditto for George Herbert Walker Bush to keep a Houston hotel room, especially when ambassador to China. It's always that way from the anti-gay senator seeking homosex from a police at MSP to all the pro - Vietnam war Republicans that didn't serve like romneylimbaughgingrichquaylecheneyallofthem.

Yeah, this was a big deal at the time. Live TV coverage and everything. And FWIW, I recall that Cox was or perhaps still is what used to be called a 'Rockefeller Republican', which would make him a raging Librul DhimmyCrap today.

fta "I was born there, I was brought up there, we have our burial plots there," he said, according to the paper. "That's what I define as home."

I plan to be buried at sea. That's what I define as home. Therefore, I am Aqua Man and all your sunken treasure are belong to me.

As  much as I'd like to see all republicans who commit voter fraud caught and convicted what he did really isn't voter fraud by almost anyone's definition.

In New York if you have more than one residence you can choose which one you want to be registered to vote from, regardless of which one you actually live at (and yes if you are not the name on the list but a family member owns it and you can prove you have spent some time there, that is also OK). This is legal in New York. Sounds like a witch hunt by the democrats in an election year, and trying to rile up the media who is probably ignorant on NY voter laws.

2014-05-14 12:21:29 AM
Cox told the paper that he has always voted on Long Island, where his family has owned property since 1870.
"I was born there, I was brought up there, we have our burial plots there," he said, according to the paper. "That's what I define as home."

I don't know how New York defines it, but that's not how the state of Illinois defines "home".

I didn't vote last election because we moved (same county, different town) and didn't get my registration changed because I hadn't gotten my address changed on my license.  I was still registered to vote at my old place, but with all the "voter fraud" accusations going around, I was afraid to chance it.

That's the Republican terrorist plan. To make you afraid to exercise your legitimate right to vote. Score: GOP 1; Bigdogdaddy 0.

Funny thing is, I live in Kansas so the point is totally moot since the GOP has the vote locked in this state.

I have no problem with this, as long as he only votes in Long Island and nowhere else.

A New York State Board of Elections spokesman told the paper that courts have traditionally been flexible as to where someone can register to vote if they can demonstrate "legitimate" and "continuing" ties to an address.

So, no story. Nothing to see here. Move along.
