I disagree, if someone abandons a property and no one wants to claim it then someone should be able to take possession of it and hopefully maintain/improve the property.

It is better for the community than this:

Adverse possession is not a legal loophole. It's a law. Of course, it is quite tricky to pull off successfully.

"If they are the true owners, then you're supposed to give it up anyway," Robinson says. Bank of America produced a deed proving ownership at this morning's hearing, according to  The Dallas Morning News, and Robinson tells Unfair Park he will not appeal because he doesn't feel that the law is on his side.

So, because the man followed the letter of the law in every way you would vandalize the property he has yet to acquire in order to dissuade him from following through with his plan?

So, to keep someone who genuinely wants to own the property and presumably pay the taxes and upkeep on it, you would destroy its value which would effectively keep anyone from wanting to own it?

You broke all the toys in Kindergarten to keep the other kids from playing with them, didn't you?  Sociopath...

My family has a farm and it's an actual concern.  Someone could camp out on some random woodsy part of it that my parents never walk on and if nobody ever told them to get lost, they could theoretically claim a portion of the land.  Granted, they would have to live there in secret for like 10 years, but it's possible.

I am not an expert on adverse possession law but I am pretty sure if they do it in secret it doesn't count. I thought they had to be pretty obvious about it.

That or BoA heard about the story, looked up the defunk mortgage and bought it for pennies on the dollar and then turned around and kicked this guy out so they could sell the property for their own profit.
