We are currently playing the best game of Civilization right now.

Except for Rome, Byzantium, Aztecs, Celts, Zulu, etc.

The wife and I used to play board games, but our interests have diverged. I'd like to pursue more esoteric games with a lot of depth. She wants games that are easy to learn and simple to set up.

I still have every module in a box somewhere although I never liked ASL nearly as much as the original. I remember the horrified look people would get when you whipped out the enormous 3 ring binder full of rules and revisions.

On my board game shelf other then the standard Hasbro games:

Agricola
Carcassonne
Munchkin Quest

Card Games:
Cards Against Humanity
Munchkin

I am looking into getting Settlers of Cataan (of course).  I have not played Carcassonne yet (just got it last Friday) but my wife and I went and saw the actual castle in France so I had to get it.

Same here.  Anything longer than 2 hours is pretty much out of the question.  We do still play occasionally, though.  My wife also absolutely refuses to play anything with a Scifi theme, though she usually ends up liking them if she does play (ie Galaxy Trucker).

Okay, but what expansions do you want me to bring? Also can we use your board, because I've worn mine out and really need to buy a new one. Who new you could play a game so much that the cardboard would start to separate?

Carcassonne is great. Simple game, but lots of fun.

I'm all about the high risk high reward method of farming. Once you try it out, you'll understand...

Good expansions as well. Mayor is good, dragon is rather advanced but fun as hell, wheel of fortune is almost a must buy, imho.

My dad enjoyed the game even more than my friends and me, just because he got to endlessly rag on us about having to read rules for 15 minutes for every move.

I still have the original Squad Leader box on my shelf, waiting for my kid to get big enough to want to play it with me.

Or keep playing my 360. There are still a ton of good games out there I haven't played yet and can be had for a cheap download or used at Gamestop. For example I just finished the Mass Effect trilogy. I'm not exactly an early adopter. Ill probably get an XBone or PS4 in a couple of years.

I mean beyond memory games and Candyland.

Sign me up if Mega Stratego actually became a thing. Stratego, Risk and Axis and Allies were my favorite board games growing up. Does pen and paper D&D count?

I have never been prouder in my life as the time I won an ASL scenario against Andy, the resident ASL wizard.  That was a stressful but hugely fun game.

Ditto.

I have a 4 and a 2 year old.  The 4 year old wants to play, but it is hard when it is Agricola and he just wants to mess with the pieces.  We do at least try to encourage it by having him hand out stuff (food, meeples, cards) but that doesn't last very long until he wanders off because he is bored.

My youngest are only 5 but they love Zombicide and Dungeon. I have to dumb it down a bit but now that the door is open, I can gradually get them up to speed.

Been getting into board games since seeing Wil Wheaton's show Tabletop back when it first started, picked up several of the games they've shown

Settlers of Catan (required for anyone who plays board games these days)
Formula D
Pandemic
Puerto Rico
Gloom
Werewolf

Girlfriend just picked up some dinosaur game at PAX East, gonna try it this weekend when we head over to a friend's for game night

I wish my brother and I hadn't destroyed our old Heroes Quest game, that would have been a good introduction into the RPG world for my children.  Same thing with our Fireball Island.

Try Pandemic. It has all that, but rather than the slow inevitability of Shadows, you can also get the Ron Burgundy 'Well...That escalated quickly...' game raping.
