ZAZ: I was at work listening to ELP's Brain Salad Surgery. The CD had a bonus track with an interview. They started talking about the cover. It was too graphic and had to be airbrushed before it could be released upon an unsuspecting world. I was writing an email while listening. My fingers dutifully typed "penis" when the word was mentioned on the audio track.  Fortunately, I noticed before sending.

Note to self, don't listen to that while engaging in realtime text chat.

If you get the chance, his museum is worth it. So is the town of Gruyères.  Really good food there.

Do want.

Giger's work was important to me in my formative teenage-moping-around-coffee-shops-late-at-night years.  I guess my personal aesthetic lies somewhere between his work and Joel Peter Witkin's.

Poor guy.  I'll miss him.

....and the museum website is so utterly off-line I can't even describe the sinking feeling of seeing that blank page.

He heavily influenced my views on art and I have some of his work around my house along with artists inspired by him.  I was hoping to collect some of his original items before he passed but I guess now the prices are going to be insane.

goodnight visionary, I'm sure your heaven will be a most interesting place.

You know, based on your Nom du Fark, I never would have guessed that.

Giger was hired by Paramount to do designs for Star Trek: First Contact, but they were turned down. I can only assume that the reason why was that stuff he proposed could only be described as "YIKES!".

Okay, which one of you brave little  jokers is going to post a link to the "FrankenChrist" album cover (and I mean the ORIGINAL one by Giger) and spend the next two weeks under Fark suspension?

That sucks. Giger and the Borg are a match made in Hell. Wish he had saved them.

Between him and Nash the Slash going, the art world has certainly taken a hit this week.

the guy who invented the Chicken McNugget died today, too. He and Giger are very different, of course. One was a man who summoned monstrous nightmares from the very deepest pits of hell. The other was HR Giger.

JoieD'Zen: a particular individual: bikerbob59: I had that album.  Yes, I said album.

An album is just a collection of songs. A CD or tape can be an album.

No, albums are vinyl and packaged in cardboard that is printed with lyrics and cool artwork, guaranteed to blow your head apart.

And yes, yes they should.
