There is only one Korea.
The Supreme Leader simply wants to remove the western backed imperialistic oppressors currently illegally occupying the southern half of the country and reunite the peninsula into the glorious worker's paradise its people cry out for it to be.

I was living in Ganghwa, a little island just west of Incheon, when North Korea shelled Yeonpyeong in November of 2010. I showed my co-teacher the news footage and he just shrugged and said, "Maybe war." Then he went about his business like nothing was wrong.

There's nothing to nuke in that country. That's probably what they want so they can blame all the deaths of the people they've already killed on the US, after-all Best Korea knows that Dems/Libs would eat that shiat up especially if a Republican was President.

The point is that no military, modern or otherwise, is going to blow him up.  The only military he has to fear is his own because they probably find him useful to ensure their well being and when he begins rambling on about a military shake up he would be the only thing shaken up.

He knows that they couldn't do that without a MAJOR international incident. While Lil' Kim is annoying and a really horrible fate imposed on his people, he's better than a war involving the U.S., South Korea, Japan and China. Not to mention, blowing him up isn't that easy unless you go to nuclear weapons. We tried to kill Saddam Hussein and Moammar Gaddhafi with our modern military, and just wound up blowing up some of their relatives.

They aren't making the threat for our benefit. They do it to keep their country at a state of readiness for war, which distracts them from the crushing poverty, while telling them that our peasants have it much worse.

If you had to undo the systemic brainwashing, where would you even start? Just pointing out the obvious... could be next year, could be in two centuries, but someday that question will need to be answered.

Do you pick an age (8 years old, 12 years old, 15 years old), and separate the citizens into two societies? Like let everyone over age X live out the rest of their days in a semi-insular bubble - similar to NK's societal structure, just with better nutrition and medical care? And then everyone under X gets deprogrammed, assigned new host families, and integrated back into the rest of the Earth?

Sadly China would have a problem with it.

There was a "leaked" document the other day from China involving plans in the event of a war in Korea.  The plans involved dealing with refugees and pretty much nothing further.  Even China is getting sick of this situation.  And honestly, about the ONLY reason they give a shiat is historic old relic of the cold war reasons.  In practical terms, China would probably love south Korea to own the whole peninsula.  Run some rail lines into Seoul and get their trade on.  Plus the US would almost certainly withdraw the troops we have there, and it would give China leverage to pull Korea into their sphere of influence and out of ours, at least to some extent.

Hrmm... Drones. The US has a MASSIVE military budget: manufacture ~3,000 Reaper drones arm the drones with missiles and freedom the shiat out of North Korea, the Kimster and his cronies+army?

12,000 Predator missiles would be $816 million, the drones would be $50.7 billion, and if you still need more freedom add in two Paveway-II laser-guided bombs per Reaper for good measure. Would assure the complete destruction of their artillery and most of their armored forces, as well as casualties to their army. Let the ground troops in SK roll in and keep a few carriers on standby to destroy potential nuclear weapons launch sites.

Seriously, the North Korean army is so outdated it's not even funny. We could roll over them in a day or two at most, if not in a few hours.

Why not just use the Air Force? Everybody thinks drones are all that; drones are only good for shooting at people in unarmed pickup trucks who can't shoot back. Even a MiG-21 from the '60s (and NK has hundreds of them) can shoot down a half-dozen Reapers without breaking a sweat.

-Drones are less expensive than conventional fighters IIRC, and when one is shot down it doesn't cost a human life, which politicians would be freaking out over if we put boots on the ground in NK.
-The KPAF would be fairly low on supplies, and if it is possible we could actually manufacture the drones to be extremely altitude-resistant, allowing them to fly higher than the NK planes can reach them.

While we could throw a few interceptors in the mix from the Air Force, you would HAVE to have volunteers to avoid the ludicrous political backlash of sending troops into yet another war.

There's no way to integrate these people into a normal society at this point.  I sometimes wonder if the only way to handle it would be a silent coup followed by pretending to preserve the status quo until everyone dies of natural causes. It would take almost a century, but you'd basically have to run the country like a big episode of "The Truman Show". Anyone who shows initiative enough to be able to survive getting out could be "sent to a camp" - the (free) south.
