but seriously, because QB's are prone to injury.

I think they signed Young to get a first-hand account of how an overhyped egotistical man-child is going to fare off the field.
The result:  NOT WELL.

Granted, Young's hype was not as overblown as this guy; but it's the same point of view.  Manziel needs to grow up and experience being called a loser, and deal with having people tell him "no". Of which he was probably never exposed to his entire life. Cleveland is the perfect place for this.

There are a lot of rookie QBs who weren't guaranteed the starting job 5 days after being drafted.

Because the Browns have a long, sad history of throwing a rookie QB on the field and watching him get beat up or fail spectacularly, when waiting and learning while an experienced veteran plays would have worked a lot better. But nooo, the coaches and/or owner always decides 'it's time' and throws the rookie out there, some times as early as the starting game or just a few after that. Hopefully Manziel will get to learn the pro game (and some humility) on the sidelines before he's told to get in there and lead the team.

No team guarantees the starting job to a just-drafted rookie.

In the Browns defense, Hoyer was doing well until he got injured. Granted, not Foles level good, but he was helping them win. It's not like the Browns are in the same position as the Raiders or even the Jets. They have a passable, transition QB so they can groom their potential franchise QB so as not to mess it up. But this is the Browns, so who knows.

Your statement apparently indicates that the Browns have a competent coaching and front office staff, which they don't.

A lot of rookies sit early.

McNabb went in mid season.

Throw out the meat (Hoyer) for a few weeks to let things stabilize.  He'll probably fail, then you can put Johnny on the field.

Hey! They have a new coach this year! We only know for sure that the front office is incompetent.

/never mind they go through coaches like Richard Simmons goes through tank tops

I was going to post this too. There's something to be said for giving a QB time to learn how to play in the NFL, instead of saying "hurr durr first-round pick must start".

I have a co-worker who is the rarest of people on this planet:  a Browns fan living in Steelers Country.  So I looked at him yesterday (was the first time I'd seen him since the draft) and I asked him how big his smile was since Cleveland actually drafted a QB worth a damn.  His response was, "You actually think he's worth a damn?!"

I am a Browns fan, and my wife is an Aggie.  She is all excited about Manziel going to Cleveland and is looking up tickets and wants his jersey and everything and is considering herself a "Browns fan" now (after not really supporting a team, but she watched them play because I did).

She asked me if I was excited, and I basically said "Welcome to the factory of sadness you poor soul"

Trent Richardson wasn't a quarterback.

He did, however, post the outdated version from before Jason Campbell.

Can't find it now, but my favorite I've seen is that same Jersey with Manziel struck-out and 'Winston' at the end.

im only saying that after hearing Dan Patrick mocking ESPN for finding their "new Tebow" in Manziel.  and he also noted how they will probably beat us over the head with Michael Sam coverage when, as a 6th round pick, we don't even know his career longevity / productivity.

i like jay mohr's line yesterday re draft grades:  "grading the 2014 draft is like grading the plumber before you flush the toilet."  the signal-to-noise is just staggering.

and i will publicly recant my prediction that, for all of the pre-draft knobslobbing of Johnny Manziel, that he would be the 3rd QB taken.  I had it Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel.  Wrong-O, old chap.

The board told them to. The one that told them they didn't need WRs for him to throw to, that board.

I'm sure they loaded up on undrafted FAs though, so they're good.

he's gonna run.........every time......or thrown an interception..........or throw it out of bounds probably not past the line of scrimmage

yeah, it's to make him understand that it isn't all just being given to him, that he has to earn it.  of course they will give it all to him out of dire straits but they just dont want him to know it.  ya know, professional level mind-games and all that.

i was just thinking that i'd love to get a jersey that said 'Johnny Foosball' or 'Johnny Fartball' on it but then i realized im not committing my jersey name to this diva.  maybe i'll get one of those jersey looking t-shirts and do it Little League baseball style with those square letters you'd get from the trophy shop t-shirt press.

sports people have said it is a terrible movie, but i've seen non-sports people say it is pretty good.  wonder if the sports folks are bringing their own preconceptions of what goes on re the draft subterfuge to the movie, and calling BS on it.  because that's what i hear.  "the scene where, no spoilers here, but, there's a big scene and blah blah blah, and, i just think there's no freaking way that would really happen.  that movie was stupid."

well, if you aren't in the draft room, how would you know?

i'll give it a chance when it shows up on Netflix, i guess.

We saw it at 10 PM the night before it was released. It was good. Wasn't Citizen Kane, and it strayed into cheesiness and cliche a few times, but overall it was an enjoyable movie. There were a few moments in the movie that would really only be funny if you've been a member of the Cleveland fanbase, like Joe Banner making a very special cameo.

I think every rookie QB should hold the Clipboard for a minimum of one game and possibly like 3 before getting the start.
