The worst part is, they have no idea when it will happen.

Sure, except for the part where the attendant counts down to 1. No idea at all.

I've never been on a waterslide, but it can't be as scary as getting pinned on a river rock by the current.

Funny how one of the "scared guests" is wearing her Aquatica crew uniform.

And what's the deal with a didgeridoo playing while someone says "Kia ora...mates" ? Because Aussie = Kiwi to us 'Murricans?

I have a scar on my back from when I went down a waterslide and one of the joints near the end was a bit rough and scratched a hole in my back :(

Still would love to try this one though.

Actually, the way it works is that you and 2 others are in the pods looking at one another  and the operator is standing out of view.  You are told to give a thumbs-up when you are ready and the operator randomly selects you one at a time to go.  So you really don't know when it will happen.

I would rather start a vertical drop water slide via trap door than start one by going 'over the top'. it feels like you could translate War & Peace into an another language during the free fall of an 'over the top' water slide.

that is farking hilarious. Might have to try that. Pool is in-ground and there is a pool cage though. Maybe I could remove the screen from one section in a prime slope area ...

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I saw a 60 year old guy slide down one of those things and he was going so fast his bathing suit fell of, and I just stood there looking at his big beautiful hairy balls just flopping around.  Holy geeze I wanted to lick 'em.

They had a near vertical one at action park. We nicknamed it "the wedginator".

It was always fun to watch girls in bikinis at the bottom of that slide.

Why would it matter?  The moment the door is closed and you are in position, expect it.  Anticipation ends the moment I get in, because it is happening.

As for the slide, an enclosed tube, I can do that.  I hate the open slides.  After one made me feel like I was going to fly right out the side, I almost quit slides completely.  I can do tubes, as sometimes I find comfort in being enclosed.  With the possibility of falling a long ways unsafely, I suddenly have some agoraphobia.

This. The trap door is a nice gimmick, but the video didn't look nearly as scary as that forever five seconds you spend tipping over the edge from a horizontal start.

Yep. The Schlitterbahn in Galveston has a pair of tall water slides that scare off the little kids and many adults once they look down from the top. It feels like a vertical start, and you're not in a raft. Starting feels like pushing yourself off a building ledge because you can't see any of the upper slide until you've committed -- it's too steep. You end up going so fast at the bottom that the water stings, and your atomic wedgie is legendary. It's really exhilarating. I saw a teenager launch into it, and he probably didn't hit the slide until he fell 20 feet (he was kicked out of the park, but it was near closing).

what if the person who went down the 'tube' before you was overly rotund... and they get stuck in a section of tube on the way down... the teenage ride operator doesn't notice and sends you down... you hit the section of backed up water that fills the tube... water continues to fill the tube behind you... enjoy the 'tube' .

Umm wouldn't you get stuck in the section at the top...because as far as i'm aware all the bits have to be the same diameter to form a safe and water tight tube?

Sorry for pedantry.

I once got to the top of a really long waterslide, I think it was in Spain, and was so excited I jumped straight in, only later did I realise there was a guy there trying to control the flow. Anyway, so as I was halfway down I ran into the person in front, who sat up in astonishment, causing us to slow down, and the person behind caught up with us. What a merry olde time we had. They both looked confused, I pretended to be confused as well, even though I knew it was all my fault.

From the wiki:

"It was given nicknames such as "Traction Park",[2] "Accident Park", and "Class Action Park"[3] by doctors at nearby hospitals due to the number of severely injured parkgoers they treated "

Awesome.

not necessarily... they are sliding down and somehow one of their chubby knees hits a dry patch on the wall of the tube... forcing their knees upwards toward their belly/chest and they become wedged into the tube, unable to go any further and unable to get their legs straightened out...

//I suppose I just don't like enclosed spaces and imagine strange worst-case scenarios in my head...

or in the case of multiple people running into each other... they become entangled and wedged into the tube... blocking the tube and slowly filling up with water...
