Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) delivered a speech on the House floor late last week, comparing the cable network's decision to Nazism

Oh just shut the f*ck up.

I had no idea that this show even exists.

The last thing we want to do is discourage these people from talking. Keep it going, guys. All the way to November.

The free market talks with its wallet. I thought that was the whole point?

Oh, right, you're not burdened by such things as "logical consistency" so proceed, Governor.

why does he hate the rights ob private business?

Where was he when Martin Bashir was fired?

Oh Jindal, you ignorant slut.

"Think about that for a minute. If these guys had protested at the Republican Party Convention, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV would probably have given them a raise."

Yeah...either that or a shiat-ton of people would have went and stood in line at Chick-fil-a or something.

When I hung up a sign that said 'HELP WANTED - NO COLOREDS NEED APPLY' Obama sent his jack booted thugs to protest my business and claim I was -- get this -- discriminating. At least I assume Obama sent them, since they were all black people.

I tell you without exaggeration that it was exactly like internment at Auschwitz.

Maybe Donald Sterling will hire them to manage some of his properties or something.

The free market decides... but if the decision is something we don't like, obviously the market wasn't free.  See?  It's so easy.

I decided to do something a little different for lunch today and went to a local bar/arcade combo that features 80s video games.

I ordered my beer, lined up my quarters on the Spy Hunter game, pumped 2 quarters in (50 cents to play friggin Spy Hunter - that alone is a war crime). Only then did I realize: the screen was frozen. The game was broken. Again.. And of course, the bartender made herself plenty scarce when she saw me steaming toward the bar to demand a refund.

At that moment, I was carried back to that time I visited the Annex at Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam. Honestly when I actually visited the Annex ten years ago I was really pretty stoned, and a little bored. I mean, it was just a house, you know? I left after about 10 minutes before heading back to the red light district; I figured that was sufficient time to make it look like I was actually paying some reverence for the events that occurred there decades before.

But then today, in that moment when I realized my 8 block trek to play Spy Hunter was in vain-- on foot, no less -- in that moment, I knew I was feeling exactly the same empty, soul crushing horror that scared little girl felt when she heard the sharp CLACK-CLICK-CLACK of the boots of Obam- er, Hitler's soldiers coming up the stairs to the annex to finally, finally lead her away to the death camps; never to return.

Yes that pain is finally real to me.  Tonight I think I may have to finally go read that biography she wrote.

I'm pretty sure those two guys are still welcome to go t0o Sarah Palin's channel and have "Christly Home Decor for Manly Men" run there.  They could probably get Madison Rising to sing the theme song even.

Hey guys, what's going on in this thread?

Forcing him out, or 'strongly encouraging' him to leave as it were was one of the stupidest things they could have done.

By and large his fans and those who watch MSNBC weren't upset about his comments. The outrage came from the Fox News audience, who aren't watching MSNBC anyway, so what did they gain by pushing him out other than making themselves look like lilly-livered pushovers?

soporific: The last thing we want to do is discourage these people from talking. Keep it going, guys. All the way to November.

Hell, why not all the way to the end of 2016? Ramble on, ramblers. There's no way this could go wrong for you.

Well HGTV has a reputation of being one of the most LGBTQ friendly networks on cable. A reputation that they've purposefully cultivated for years now. So It's not shocking that when they learn that the hosts of a new show on their channel are fire and brimstone homophobes they decide to evaluate their established audience and friendly reputation and act accordingly.

Bobby Jindal: Why do you hate capitalism?

Think about this for a minute, if these guys had eaten the world's largest pizza, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have built them a bicycle built for two.

Think about this, if these guys had smoked e-cigarettes, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have sent a ventriloquist to their birthday party.

Think about this, if these guys had double penetrated Lindsay Lohan, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have performed at Lollapalooza.

So if it's ok to fire somebody for being anti-gay it's ok to fire somebody for being anti-straight?  Or should we all just agree that where you stick your penis has no regard to business and everybody just STFU about it?  We have bigger issues to deal with.

Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: I had no idea that this show even exists.

It doesn't; hence the right wing protests.  It was going to be a thing but got canceled before it was even officially announced when somebody pointed out to the network that the right wing derp machines that were going to star in the show were, in fact, right wing derp machines.

Liberty University, of course, is the Virginia school founded by Jerry Falwell, the radical televangelist who died seven years ago this week. The "Flip It Forward"  , twin brothers David and Jason Benham, are Liberty alumni.

Oh, they're Liberty U. grads.  And Jindal was giving a speech there this week.

Liberty University.  Where interracial dating was grounds for expelling up until...  What was it, 2005?  2007?

The free market has long been the go to response for Conservatives.  If there was a problem, the free market could solve it.  Well, it looks like the free market, along with facts and empathy, apparently has a liberal bias.

Think about it, if these guys had rigged the Super Bowl, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have perfected time travel.

Think about it, if these guys had mowed the lawn, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have rendered unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.

Think about it, if these guys had elected Obama, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have DVR'd the Breaking Bad finale but never gotten around to watching it.

Think about it, if these guys had stolen honey from a beehive, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have demanded trial by combat, as is their right.

Think about it, if these guys had fallen asleep during Django Unchained, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have bombed their final exams and have to take summer semester.

I never understood that one. He insulted Sarah Palin. So what? How many MSNBC viewers did they lose for that? Zero? Negative 100? His ratings were probably total shiat and his Palin insult was probably just an excuse.

Good point. If they were smart businessmen, I guess they would have STFU about it.

This is quite true.  Most of their shows are some variant of "young couple looks buys, remodels, and/or sells a house".  I would guess that between 5-10% of said couples featured are homosexual ones (IE, probably the approximate percentage of such that exists overall).

I can tell you that the only person I know that is a Ron Paul loving free market "libertarian" said that this is exactly the case.  In this case, it's "Jack booted thugs trying to keep down free speech".

He's lost all connection with reality at this point, as in I don't think he can distinguish reality from fiction as he has repeatedly stated bits from fiction novels as if they were real events.... (My coworker, not Jindal)

Complaining about how volcanoes are completely benign and should be ignored?

Wasting taxpayers money on coastal clean up efforts that scientists say won't work?

Giving bad Republican responses to the state of the Union?

Think about it, if these guys had been drafted ahead of Johnny Manziel, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have changed the cat litter.

Think about it, if these guys had filmed a shot for shot remake of Last Tango in Paris, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have filed for bankruptcy.

Think about it, if these guys had joined al Queda, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have filled out the perfect March Madness bracket.

Think about it, if these guys had taught me how to Dougie, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have climbed over 9 dead bodies on the way up Mount Everest.

Think about it, if these guys had contracted syphilis, instead of cancelling their show, HGTV probably would have guest starred on a very special Blossom.

Predictably enough, the usual suspects are able to applaud the free market when an entertainer's business is hurt by standing up for marriage equality, then less than a month later claim that HGTV's business decision is the action of the "gay gestapo."

Also, I think I agree with Dan Savage's assessment: "Then one day you couldn't say that shiat... ...and keep your job and be invited back to say that shiat again. "

The cable network HGTV recently cancelled a reality show called "Flip It Forward," featuring two social conservatives who, as the name suggests, try to make a living by flipping homes.

You're going to put up a show on flipping houses.  A show that will involve things like redecorating interiors, designing lawns, and getting just the right shade of paint to make the exterior look fabulous!  And you plan to air this show on HGTV, amidst other shows such as:

"I Brake for Yard Sales",
"Celebrity Motor Homes",
"15 Fresh Handmade Gift Ideas",
"25 Biggest Decorating Mistakes", and
"Closet Cases".

all the while being very open and forthcoming about how you think homosexuals are second-class citizens undeserving of equal rights?

Why don't you try a few bars of the Kazahkstan national anthem at a rodeo while you're at it?

Yep. Perfectly okay.  Find us the stridently anti-straight person with a TV show and we'll discuss.

I've come to the conclusion that Jesus was gay. Back in his day, a man of his age who remained unmarried was just downright bizarre. Sure, some like to push the theory that Mary Magdalene was his wife, but there's no proof of that. Him being a homo on the other hand, the evidence abounds. He hung around with a bunch of other single dudes, who spent pretty much all of their time with each other. There's no mention of any of these guys getting any pussy. Yet none of them seem to show any sign of being sexually frustrated. Quite the opposite in fact, those apostles of his were all quite happy. One can only imagine what happened at that Last Supper, after they posed for that portrait.

2014-05-12 07:34:06 PM
What is it about commercial TV that they don't understand.  Say things that offend viewers so they won't watch or buy the products of sponsors and you lose your show.  That simple.
