Whether supernatural entities exists depends on the incarnation. I can't say enough good things about  Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated, which I'd say is honestly the best incarnation of the characters (if only for Patrick Warburton and Lewis Black playing major roles and the show having an overarching plot.)

That said, finding out that Velma and Shaggy were originally created as brother and sister makes Mystery Incorporated a lot creepier, since a major plot point of the show was Velma being interested in Shaggy but being frustrated that she was given lower priority than his dog when it came to... quality time together.

The redeeming value of Sccoby Doo was that supernatural entities DIDN'T exist, they were always proved to be jerks fooling people for their own selfish purposes - a goddamned good lesson for kids.

You could find that info in any history of Hanna-Barbera.  BTW...Scooby-Doo got his name from
the Frank Sinatra song "Strangers in the Night"  ("Scooby-dooby-doo..."), and his personality
(and voice) come, to some extent, from the Jetsons' dog Astro (who says things like,
"Rerro, Reorge!"  instead of  "Raggy! Raggy! Relp! Relp!"); in fact, H-B once tried a promo
trying to link Astro and Scooby.  Also...why does every HB cartoon circa 1970 have to have
the villain saying "meddling" somewhere along the way?  Did one of the scriptwriters happen to
open a dictionary to the word "meddle" and fell in love with its sound?

Talking dogs, on the other hand...

But more importantly, Scooby and the gang pursued and solved mysteries wherein the crime was something other than murder, in stark contrast to every other mystery program (except those also produced by Hanna-Barbera).

The 1969 Scooby-Doo recently came to Netflix here in Canuckistan.   At first I was excited about the idea of sharing a cartoon I loved as a child with my kids.  Then we watched an episode........

Did I just block out the memory of Scooby-Doo having a bloody laugh track or was this somebody's brilliant idea of a way to "improve" the show?    It's jarring to the point of making the show unwatchable.

I remember a laugh track in "the NEW Scooby-Doo Movies", but I'm blanking on whether there was on in the "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" series.

Sez you! I still lol at the scene from "Zombie Island" where the gang is trying to tear off the mask of a ghoul they caught, and surmising which of the living locals may be the culprit behind it all, only to accidentally tear the zombie's head off it's neck and discover that the ghoul getup is no getup.

They added the laugh track to get a big bang for their ratings. That is just a theory, though.

There was a laugh track on the series.  I only remember it because it goes off when Cher kicks the mansion and it falls off the edge of the cliff at the end of the episode.

Agreed that it's a fantastic series and a real love-letter to fans of Hanna-Barbara.

Between the Mystery Solver's Club State Finals and the episode with Blue Falcon channeling Frank Miller's Dark Knight, the show was filled to the brim with great content.

I can attest to "Scooby Doo: Where Are You?" (as well as "Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space") having a laugh track, at least as of reruns in the mid- to late-1970s. It seemed incongruous to me, even as a kid, but 'twas the era of such things. If I recall, "The Flintstones" had a laugh track, too.

What I want to know is who is paying the bills? They drove around presumably without jobs; who paid for gasoline and food and lodging? At least when they were a rock band it made sense, they were playing gigs and earning money.
