Islamist militancy in Nigeria is being strengthened by western and regional fossil fuel interests

You are an idiot, submitter.

So subby is saying that environmental distress DOESN'T cause human conflict?

Know how I know you didn't read the article?

Obama was too busy going after the Tea Party to address this threat. Even after they firebombed 100 school boys in Feb, Obama refused to acknowledge they were a terrorist organization. That would have been racist and PCism>common sense.

There's a lot more to the article than that sentence.

Also blamed:
desertification leading to loss of agricultural employment
human migration due to chaos in neighboring countries
energy crisis
government corruption

/not subby

All in all, it's just humanity playing out its favorite story: Corrupt, bloated state falls victim to angry, desperate displaced "barbarians".

The real tragedy is how Susan Rice went on Sunday talk shows and blamed it on a Facebook game. Then Obama went on to say it was an act of kidnapping instead of what it really is a kidnapping act. Demand answers and donate to the GOP today.

If we classify Boko Haram as pirates, does that mean the global temperature will go down?

Its true that Nigeria is a corrupt, fractured shiathole.

FTFA:

"Instability in Nigeria, however, has been growing steadily over the last decade - and one reason is climate change. In 2009, a UK Department for International Development (Dfid) study warned that climate change could contribute to increasing resource shortages in the country due to land scarcity from desertification, water shortages, and mounting crop failures. "

The article finally puts the rationale behind the weird PR campaign for these girls here in the USA.  As much as it is a tragedy Nigeria (and much of the rest of Africa) need to grow the fark up and leave the year 700 A.D. behind (CE for those who aren't aware they are approximately the same minus the religious connotation).

But yes the only reason the FBI, CIA and others and our whole executive branch are up in arms is because of the competition in Africa for resources between the US and China.  Oh and with China's new rail deal it looks like they are winning that fight.

Um, Subby, this is exactly what people have been predicting for the last few years. Water is quite possibly going to be the next oil, and people will die over water rights and water supplies.

People have been fighting over water since the start.
Without water you don't have much of a civilization, hence most of the planets population lives near a source.

/Oil and coal became an issue when we learned to enslave the carbon atom.
/When it runs out we'll probably just go back to having slaves.
/Without water plan B isn't very viable.

Political distress causes far more.

Um, as the number of people increase, resources also become scarcer. But no, blame a 1 deg a century increase in temps and not the 50 year population doubling rate.

Resources are becoming scarcer due to FAR more than just population growing. Building your Las Vegas's and Phoenix's will do it to you faster than population growing.

People are much less likely to support political agitation if they're materially comfortable.

But while condemnations have rightly been forthcoming from a whole range of senior figures from celebrities .....

Uh, oh my. We're all dead.

There mere fact that they even mentioned climate change just goes to show the absolute absurdity this topic is being taken to and just more evidence that people just have no clue about it.
