25.2 murders per 100 people?

So, it would be like a vacation to those living in: Flint, Detroit, New Orleans, St. Louis, Baltimore, Birmanham, Newark, Oakland and Baton Rouge.

Ok - per 100 would be extreme - let me correct myself per 100,000

For the nation. The US is 4.8 for the nation.

For the love of god, don't go to Recife.

Better than South Africa, where the government had to bargain with the criminal element to please 'not rape and kill the tourists' there for the World Cup.

Good times...good times.

Oh and tourists were warned not to 'take rides out to unheard of gambling parlors late at night'.

You'd think you wouldn't have to tell people that but...

I have to travel to Brazil shortly so I'm really not getting a kick.

Seriously between the Brazilians giving me the run around on my visa and extorting me, Sao Paulo being rated in the top ten most dangerous cities in the world and now this i'm starting to wonder if it might be time to consider a different career path.

It really was. I think I'm going to play through it again here soon. It's a shame the free aim multiplayer was such a ghost town after barely two weeks. In a game where you can hold and fire two guns that just piss bullets at the same time, why the hell would people need lock-on?

For the years listed, Rio and Flint have remarkably similar homicide rates.

And remember -- Flint is a national joke in the USA -- it's our most violent major city. Rio is below median for state capitals in Brazil.

If you're kidnaped, it'll provide negotiators, maybe ex-seals to help, it will pay ransom, counseling services, etc.

I understand what you're saying HOWEVER the police chief is right in a very pramatic and logical sense. If I have to hazard a guess I'm going to say most of the Americans and Europeans who will be flying to Brazil are probably not those who lives in inner city Detroit or the ghettos of Paris.

I mean I may be wrong but I seriously doubt the average gangbanger from Detroit/NO/Flint etc (who is use to street violence) is going to Rio to watch the World Cup in person.

Who the fark decided to take the World Cup to violent crime ridden places TWICE IN A ROW. It's like they're trying to give the fans who travel to see it a set of war stories.

Man up, Nancy! Sure we have bad crime, everything is overpriced, it often smells like sewage, traffic is horrible, the beaches have sharks, the sidewalks are garbage, but if you're a tourist with a minimal level of historical curiosity, there are a lot of cool things to check out in Recife. Spend some time in Olinda, Pátio de São Pedro, Recife Antigo; watch the honeys in Boa Viagem beach, and check out some of the beaches south of the city. Unfortunately, many people who live there are themselves too afraid and prefer to cloister themselves in one of the many malls, aspiring to be like the cultural wasteland that is southern Florida, but if you spend some time with someone who appreciates the city, there is a great time to be had.

Biggest international demand for tickets came from the US, followed by Germany. Proportionately, there are few US soccer fans, but they travel well.
