The 100th anniversary of "the rape of Belgium" is coming up this September. This is where, at the very start of WWI, the Germans used the excuse of being attacked by a few Belgium farmers who objected to the German army stealing their livestock to go on a killing and raping spree, which they then covered up by burning entire towns to the ground and executing hundreds of men, women and children. They were big on forcing nuns to strip naked and then marching them through their own town before they torched it.

The British press (proving that those folks have been total assh*les for a century) then got involved and invented even more stories, most of them so lurid and outlandish that all the world soon dismissed the entire thing. But to the people from the area where it happened, they have never forgotten.

They probably did, but East Germany didn't have much of an army--the Soviets didn't want them having any independent capabilities whatsoever.  I think it was five guys and a T-34 with the guns removed.

Who cares about excercises.   The Germans have had thousands of troops in combat in Arcrapistan for years.

They are past 'excercise'.

And there were plenty before that.  I was there from 63-65 and I remember several, including Operation Biglift, which had a full US armor division airlift from the US to Germany.  After all, the US forces in Europe - around 300,000 at the time - were viewed as a holding action against the commies until the real military could arrive from the US.

Ummmm

I was at 1/4 IN REGT (OPFOR) and we trained against the Germans. Must have been 1996 or so in Hohenfels, Germany at the Combat Maneuver Training Center.

Why is this a story? The German army has been training force on force with the US for quite a while now.

You're wrong about that. The Soviets kept a close eye on them, but the East German army got as large as 175,000 men in the '80s, and their air force had 250 MiG-21s. It was more than twice the size of Germany's current army, which is only 62,000 men. Or sixty percent of what they were limited to in the Versailles Treaty. Prussia is in Poland and Germans are nearly all pacifists now; subby has nothing to worry about.

Yeah probably not. Just like in 1939, the Germans are looking to sign a long-term nonagression pact with a Russian dictator, so long as it makes their businesses money. Germans as a race don't have morals.

Not to worry. All they want is the The Sudetenland and they will be appeased.

With the referendum BS in the Ukraine, Poland will soon be the one rolling tanks against Russia there. The rest of Europe knows they are committed to war against Russia. It is the reason NATO exists. I don't think that they thought a new Tsar would rise in Russia to challenge NATO. But either they fight back or Putin will own the rest of Europe piece by piece.

That's East Prussia. Germany lost a lot of Prussia at the end of World War One (the mouth of the Oder is at the current border with Poland, and it used to bisect Prussia).

You know why nobody in Germany talks about getting Prussia back? Because the Soviets ethnically cleansed the areas that are now Russian and Polish of German speakers, and pushed all the German-speakers into what is now Germany. No Teutonic diaspora, no future Hitler claiming they're being oppressed.

Churchill wanted to permanently divide and deindustrialize Germany, to keep Prussian militarism from ever being allied with the power of the Ruhr again. The Germans pretty much took care of the problem by discarding Prussian militarism along with Prussia.

Wow... What a troll you are today. Either that, or you are woefully ignorant about our international neighbors. I don't think you can ask for a better neighbor than the Germans. They have historically had some bad leadership, but the people as a whole are good people. In the four years I lived there, I came to thin of the FRG (prior to the joining of east/west) as a second true home.

You ever been to Germany farktard? Know any Germans? I've lived in Germany for 6 years and I freakin love it here. The Germans might be a bit standoffish at first but once you get to know them, they can be great friends. They work hard and play hard and have an ethic that America should envy. Maybe you should travel around and learn something.

Nah we'll just cut off their banks from worldwide banking system so their state-run companies won't be able to be paid by their customers. Pootie Tang will have more internal problems than external and we the only thing we will need to spend money on is popcorn for the show.

That map of Prussia is of the Kingdom of Prussia at the height of its power, before it unified Germany, much later in life after successful conquests. The historical region of Prussia is what I was talking about. The original homeland of the Prussians
