Was there something in the article about drinking establishments? If so, I must have totally missed it.

When did the Weather Channel decide their website would be better at delivering weather if they made their content 99% clickbait?

The roller coaster sucks, you are only allowed to raise one arm when you are going down the final drop to have your picture taken

Subby must be 14 with a freshly stolen case of Genesee Cream Ale and a bag of dirt weed.

You just know it's going to be haunted and that a van full of teens with their great dane is going to go in and probably not make it out alive.

When I was a kid in Maryland, we used to go to this place called The Enchanted Forest.  It was in Ellicott City I think.
I went back when I was in college to see it again, and it was fully abandoned.  The front entrance, which was a castle was now part of a Safeway.
The entire park was still behind the shopping center, abandoned and overgrown.  Super creepy.

We came back a month later and had a big Airsoft battle there.
It was epic; hiding in teacups, and on top of Cinderella's castle.

I heard it's finally gone now, but I haven't been back to see for myself.

went to berlin 14 1/2 years ago...but we didn't go to this park...of course, we were just there to party in the streets for the millennium new year, and we did do that quite well...with excursions to the wall, beate uhse erotik museum, etc...but if i'd known about hitler car ride, heck yeah we would've visited the park!

FTFA: In recent years, groups have started organizing group tours of the remains of Spreepark, located next to the river Spree.

It seems like the article is saying you can get in, so I'm confused, but that's normal.

Now here's a place you're a lot less likely to visit. I'd love to take a motorcycle through there.

There is a petting zoo called Clark's Elioak that moved and restored a number of the Enchanted Forest attractions.  http://www.clarklandfarm.com/CEF%20EF%20Moving%20to%20the%20Farm.htm

Yep, I used to go there as a kid. Never liked it. The "rides" were lame and there was too much fantasy/fairy themed stuff for a 4 year old boy. The summer carnival circuit was always more fun with better food, better rides & tons of freakshow carnies to gawk at.

I enjoy looking at decaying, abandoned construction being reclaimed by nature.

All the vandalism bums me out though.

I remember the Enchanted Forest, they used to have commercials on TV all the time growing up. Every now and then it is the news because some historical group wants to clean it up and open it again. They start clearing brush and thats about it.

I was thinking that it was from Hanna too, glad we got that covered. I just thought what a waste for those video games istead of letting them rot or trashing them somebody coulda made a few 100 bucks off of each. That hockey table would have been fun to have.

Amazed at how well the teacups ride held up, the paint still looks fresh. The tent above it hasn't ripped yet and let rain in, maybe that's why.

Hope when the town takes over they try to save/reincorporate a few things into whatever they plan for the area.  That Wildcat roller coaster tunnel entrance is salvageable, so are some of the dinosaurs, the swan boat would make a nice planter.  And maybe sell a few things to the public, like selling memento seats from an old stadium, to raise money--individual roller coaster cars or log flume boats.  People will buy all kinds of weird stuff for mementos.

In this case the park wasn't in an open field, but within a forested nature conservation area (peninsula-ish) in a bent of the river Spree, so the park was pretty green to begin with.
I read somewhere that this was/is one of the problems with the property:
not much parking space and where the areal doesn't border the river, there's protected forest which you aren't allowed to clear for a parking lot, so the park wasn't comfortably accessible by car which probably affected visitor numbers.

Honestly, I'd have stolen one of those cars, fixed it up and made it just barely street legal, and drove it around town as a personal vehicle just for laughs.
