Misleading story is misleading.

"Not only did Noah ask family and friends to give him money for the Police Department instead of birthday presents, the freckle-faced boy dipped into his piggy bank for an extra $12 to round off the donation at $1,650."

2014-05-12 03:09:39 AM
I think this story would have worked a lot better if there were some serious disease this boy was battling. At least in that way, the donation would be symbolic of his altruistism in contrast with his dire situation.

But as-is, this story just seems like the worst kind of glurge. It's neither sappy nor sad. The kid just comes across as a hopelessly stupid kid with a big heart and no brains.

The populace and Federal government should really wisen up and commit to building a maglev system in the US. Because of the incredible size of the country, it is so desperately needed...

Due to global warming and rising energy costs, it's the really smart and intelligent way to go long-term for travel across the U.S. We really can't afford to keep pumping fossil fuels into the atmosphere, mindlessly, using fuel constantly to lift incredibly heavy jets 30000 feet into the air.

It takes much much more energy to lift a heavy object into the air than it does to push or pull a frictionless train system based on electromagnetism across the ground.

I realize this would be a multi-billion or trilllion dollar project, but the costs would be recouped in long-term energy savings. Not only this, it would help protect and preserve our ozone layer. It's kind of important to have one of those...

Unlike Amtrak and other types of conventional trains, maglev tracks are designed completely differently. They are completely level and lifted off the ground. Because of the nature of how the tracks are designed and built, they are much safer than conventional train tracks, and the trains themselves are 'locked into' the tracks. Not only do they go faster than normal trains (at over 300 MPH), they are also safer than conventional trains (as well as planes).

Human beings really need to start thinking ahead. It's important to realize how our actions now will effect future generations that inhabit the planet. Let's stop being so selfish and start doing things smarter so that future generations can still enjoy the planet Earth.

The time is now to start thinking differently. Every action is preceded by thoughts. We can change this reality for the better by choosing to use our minds more creatively and thinking differently. Thoughtful compassion and consideration for future generations that will inhabit the planet is of absolute importance.

His $1,210.25 contribution to the Ocoee Fire Department last year was the largest one-time donation ever to the city firefighters, who used the funds in their "Fully Involved" program, which enlists volunteers to paint fire hydrants and build wheelchair ramps for disabled people in need.

Those rotten bastard cops.

they educate them on how to rat out their parents for smoking pot, betting on football or going 5 over the speed limit.

I don't know if that will work on him. Guys like that think that our laws are passed down from on high by the gods of right and wrong.

You can't give them money. If you do, they just keep coming back for more. They are just like Racoons or Homeless people.

Frederick: hasty ambush: Giving money to government, why do Fark ProgressivesTM have a problem with this?

This is confusing.

Because the gigantic metal rod of smug self satisfaction is still firmly wedged in their tight asses. Anything with cops in it always gets cop in the thread. Even if its just some boy donating to the local police force that he looks up to.

I know it's futile, but I'll ask again anyway. Do you keep typing "Fark ProgressivesTM"because you saw someone type Fark IndependentsTMand don't get the joke? What is supposed to be the difference between a Fark ProgressiveTM and a regular progressive?

I was curious about that to.

Your first reaction might to think about things wedged in tight asses and lose all rational thought. But just because liberals like the idea of government feeding poor people doesn't mean we like the idea of government tazering poor people.

I am more curious why we aren't using alt-0153™. That should keep the formatting even when quoted.

serpent_sky: LoneVVolf: That kid's got some sh*t to hide...

Or as I said, his parents do.  Six year olds do NOT think like that. They want toys and birthday cake, not money for cops.  It reeks of brainwashing farked up parents.

I volunteer for an animal shelter and we regularly have kids showing up with donations because they asked for that instead of presents for their birthdays. They come in with piles of dog toys, kitty litter and cash. It's adorable and the kids always talk about how they want to help the animals. They don't seem brainwashed in the least, unless you consider teaching your children to help others brainwashing. And this is fark, so I'm sure plenty of you do.

They couldn't just raise that amount with 3 more unnecessary speeding/parking tickets?  Police forces are a fund raising enterprise now, not public service.  Just remember that if you actually expect them to help you.
