Dumbass kid. I had delusions about "Officer Friendly" as a child also. He is going to regret this.

That's got to be worth getting out of a couple of misdemeanors when he's older.

Was there asset forfeiture involving his Easy-Meth oven?

I'm sure they'll feel awful for tasing him because he cut in the lunch line once they realize who he is

Or when they show up at the wrong house on an anonymous drug tip and shoot his dog.

They already forgot, they're too busy counting the money and trying to figure out how many shiny new tasers they can get with it, or how much overtime they can pay the guys out on revenue duty.

Don't they get enough from drug forfeitures?

And in 20 years, that little dupe will treat us to a clip of him coming back from some unneeded conflict in EastHelliIstan, and surprising his kids, and dogs after FIGHTING FOR OUR FREEDOMTM..

Misleading story is misleading.

"Not only did Noah ask family and friends to give him money for the Police Department instead of birthday presents, the freckle-faced boy dipped into his piggy bank for an extra $12 to round off the donation at $1,650."

2014-05-12 03:09:39 AM
I think this story would have worked a lot better if there were some serious disease this boy was battling. At least in that way, the donation would be symbolic of his altruistism in contrast with his dire situation.

But as-is, this story just seems like the worst kind of glurge. It's neither sappy nor sad. The kid just comes across as a hopelessly stupid kid with a big heart and no brains.

What six-year old gets 1600 bucks for their birthday?

2014-05-12 04:49:43 AM
I'd seen a lot less money than that by the age of 20.

He'll live to regret it. I give him about 10 years...

I thought the story was gonna be about a kid coming back from a bake sale or from selling his game consoles and the cops thought that was a suspicious amount of money for him to be carrying so they took it.

The Mayor thanked the child for the $825 donation, later the Police Chief declared the $400 would be put to good use.

The populace and Federal government should really wisen up and commit to building a maglev system in the US. Because of the incredible size of the country, it is so desperately needed...

Due to global warming and rising energy costs, it's the really smart and intelligent way to go long-term for travel across the U.S. We really can't afford to keep pumping fossil fuels into the atmosphere, mindlessly, using fuel constantly to lift incredibly heavy jets 30000 feet into the air.

It takes much much more energy to lift a heavy object into the air than it does to push or pull a frictionless train system based on electromagnetism across the ground.

I realize this would be a multi-billion or trilllion dollar project, but the costs would be recouped in long-term energy savings. Not only this, it would help protect and preserve our ozone layer. It's kind of important to have one of those...

Unlike Amtrak and other types of conventional trains, maglev tracks are designed completely differently. They are completely level and lifted off the ground. Because of the nature of how the tracks are designed and built, they are much safer than conventional train tracks, and the trains themselves are 'locked into' the tracks. Not only do they go faster than normal trains (at over 300 MPH), they are also safer than conventional trains (as well as planes).

Human beings really need to start thinking ahead. It's important to realize how our actions now will effect future generations that inhabit the planet. Let's stop being so selfish and start doing things smarter so that future generations can still enjoy the planet Earth.

The time is now to start thinking differently. Every action is preceded by thoughts. We can change this reality for the better by choosing to use our minds more creatively and thinking differently. Thoughtful compassion and consideration for future generations that will inhabit the planet is of absolute importance.

PreMortem: Dumbass

My initial reaction too - also who the fark gets $1650 for birthday money when they're 6 years old?

I know there's inflation and shiat, but I was lucky to get $5 each from both sets of grandparents.

I'm guessing this kid isn't really wanting for much.

Beggin' the Cruisers pardon, but WTF are the police doing educating kids?  Shouldn't teachers and parents be doing that?

$1650? Pfft. They could make that on 3 or 4 speeding tickets or an 1/8th of a DUI. Public $afety i$ $eriou$ Bu$$ine$$.

And then?  Like I said, there is inflation to consider, but I doubt I raked in even $50 total in gifts and $5 bills in cards when I was 6.  In fact, I'd wager it was closer to $25.

I see what you did there.

You added a dollar sign instead of an 's', because they both look alike, to indicate financial motivation.

"Noah's mother works with disabled people and said she often talks with her son about taking advantage of opportunities to help others."

So basically the kid had no say in it.

"The boy said he likes helping community helpers."

Actually he'd probably really like some stuff for himself, but Mommy wont let him. Mommy wants him to be a miniature philanthropist instead of a normal six year old, it's all part of her image, and too bad what he wants. I wonder how many years it will take before he snaps and stabs her.
