"I did surrender my license back in 2011. I did so in protest of the Real ID Act. As some of your listeners will know, when you go to renew your license in a state that is Real ID compliant, you have to submit an array of documentation including a marriage license, divorce decrees, bank statements

Just read the Wikipedia page on Real ID and, surprise, surprise, he's full of shiat.

and you also have to submit to a bio-metric facial recognition scan that is maintained in a federal database."

Fun fact: the act was written by a Republican and signed by a Republican president. And it appears most of the efforts to repeal it have been led by Democrats.

Yeah, he is a bit nuts, but FL's requirements for a license are a bit extreme.  When I went to change the address on my license a few years ago I had to produce an official birth certificate with a raised seal.  The fact that I already had a valid FL driver's license apparently didn't matter, and the photocopy of my birth certificate I'd been using for years wasn't good enough, I had to pay to have my state of birth's department of vital records send me an official copy.

Still, I hope this guy gains traction.  He'll siphon away far more votes from Scott than Crist (or whoever the Democratic challenger ends up being, but it will probably be Crist).

Oh, thank god. Maybe now the libertarians I know will stop getting excited about this guy on Facebook.

Being in Florida, politics are bad enough as they are. Libertarians who would give the mouse enough power to enslave the state aren't helping.

Shiat, when I get a new DL, I'm going to have to get a new copy of my birth certificate and SS card.  Haven't seen either since I moved.  I'm sure they're in the house somewhere, but damned if I could tell you where.

Sounds like a "freeman of the land".  Fotl nuts are cropping up everywhere, thinking they can get their way in courts by pretending things like eightteenth century terminology still applies and the courts aren't valid if there's a fringe on the flag.  They're nuts.  They pretend like they're all about freedom and responsibility, but most fotl twat-waffle-ness involves hairbrained schemes to rack up debt they can then use "magic" to make "go away".

Of course it doesn't work.  They get hauled into courts they say they don't recognize, and put into jails they don't approve of.  And nobody but fotl's care.

Deliberately baiting law enforcement in public forums, and he still got away with it for three years. This is the same group as the deadbeat college kids who think the CIA is going to scramble the black helicopters if they want to live off the grid.

That doesn't appear to be part of the Real ID requirements, though. From that Wikipedia page:

The DHS rule, Section 37.13(b)(3), specifies that the validity of birth certificates, presented to document the date of birth or to prove U.S. citizenship, should be verified electronically, by accessing the Electronic Verification of Vital Events (EVVE) system maintained by the National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems (NAPHSIS), rather than directly with the issuers of the birth certificates (such as hospitals).

A photocopy of an official birth certificate should have more than sufficient information to submit an EVVE query. Requiring a full official BC is just the state of Florida being a dick (or maybe just being stone-age enough that the DMV doesn't know how to hook up to EVVE).

Eh, probably not.  While libertarians do specialize in hilarious hypocrisy, the kind of folk who actively chase an arrest record are usually internally consistent about their pet project, in the case ID requirements.

Of course he could easily want State ID requirements but no federal because "fed bad, derp!"

I don't know when "a few years ago" was, but back in 2010 and 2011 when I moved I only had to send a form in the mail. I did only move within the same city, though.

/Moved out of that hole FL in 2012.

I think it means Obamacare is like waiting hours and hours at the DMV and paying a shiatload for bad service and a crappy picture. Plus they make you donate your organs. Farking commies. The private sector would do so much better if they were unfettered from over-regulation and allowed to lead in the free market.

Ah, but have you ever faked a raised seal? Much easier to do than manipulate the database. At which point it's easier to get a new identity.

'Smaller government' usually means 'I'm not allowed to exploit/hurt people as much as I want to'.  And that's the best case scenario.

True story. The real reason behind Real ID is because Charlotte county farked up and gave Mohammad Atta a driver's license because they were too lazy to call and ask Sarasota county why they'd flagged him in the system. All of the annoyance of digging up documents would be unnecessary if the incompetence and laziness of one county hadn't resulted in a terrorist getting an ID that shouldn't have been given and that he used to board a plane on 9/11.

Yeah screw the FAA, FDA, EPA, OSHA, Coast Guard, and other agencies! We don't need no air traffic controllers or auditors! If I want to fly my 757 at 300 feet using crap parts from an uncertified source with zero quality, don't tread on my freedoms!

Government needs to be the appropriate size for the things it needs to do. No bigger and no smaller. Washington is not the only problem, it is primarily voter apathy. When only stupid angry people are voting we get the crazy we have today.

You actually have it backwards. Smaller government means the feds will be prevented from allowing the Derpers at the State level exclude, exploit and hurt people as much as they want to.

Seriously, this is RONPAUL's whole argument against the Civil Rights legislation. That the Feds cannot force the state's to protect a minority's access to that there Free Market.

Assholes and idiots like this have ruined the Libertarian Party. Seriously, it wasn't always like this.
