Perhaps I am wrong, but if a man* ran over survivors of an airline crash, he would have his name reported, and out of sheer embarrassment for being a dumbass he would not have sued, hoping that the story would die down.

But then again, good for you, 49-year-old Elyse Duckett. You are willing to be forever embedded in internet history for what you believe in.

It's unfortunate that someone was killed by the emergency response, but the fire department's priority isn't fleeing survivors in regards to a crashed aircraft.

It's the fire and tons of fuel that they're concerned with.

It's probably a man* who ran her over FIRST, because she ran over the body second. Yet the death is blamed on her and her name is released to the media? Yeah, she might have a case.

*Because the first driver wasn't named, which Duckett alleges is because it's not a black lesbian.

Yes. Who's name is out there now because she mentioned it in the lawsuit.

By the time she got there, the suit says, Ye had already been killed by another fire rig and her body was obscured in flame-retardant foam. Duckett's rig then ran over the girl, the suit says.

Why the fark would you run over anything that big while on the way to an emergency? Doesn't matter whether you think it's a body or some debris. Christ, what idiots. Especially when you have no idea what's going on at the scene. There could be bodies all over the place.

A small Chinese girl isn't much debris when you are driving a 60ton airport fire truck.  Some of those trucks could run over small cars and not notice.

From that pic, it looks like that guy just finished blowing her away with a sidearm.

*puts on tinfoil hat*

Maybe he directed the trucks to mush her up as much as possible to cover his actions.

/tucks hat away for later use

I can see where she'd be ticked off if there were two drivers involved in the death of a third person, they are unsure of which truck actually killed them,  and only she was named.

To be fair, that foam can hide quite a bit:

That's a real photo of a hanger after a fire-suppression system went off.  The girl probably wasn't even visible as a bump.

She's suing them because the media learned her name from the fire department?

Yeah, it's not like they couldn't POSSIBLY have learned her name from any other source...if by no other means, via discovery when the kid's parents sued the fire department later. I mean, COME ON, honey...

Coroner's investigation determined that the girl was run over by two trucks. Duckett's truck was the 2nd on the scene.

It is a reasonable assumption that the girl was hit by the other truck 1st. I don't think that anyone involved is debating this point.

EVEN if they felt the bump. they would almost certainly assume that it was a bit of wreckage from the plane crash ...

My response was too the claim that

the fire department's priority isn't fleeing survivors in regards to a crashed aircraft.

That survivors fleeing from a fire are of so little concern to the fire department that they need to watch out for the fire trucks and not the other way around.

Does that strike you as bullshiat?  Because it's not bullshiat.  The giant flaming wreckage about to become a bomb is more of a concern than tip-toeing around wreckage to make sure you don't hit someone underneath it.  If you're ever in a aircraft emergency, you better be watching out for emergency vehicles if you're fleeing from the site because they have bigger priorities.

2014-05-11 12:53:57 PM
She isn't going to get anywhere with a lawsuit, but why isn't the medic that couldn't tell if a girl was dead not taking any heat?  How hard could it be to detect a pulse and respiration?  Otherwise, she would been moved to triage and received treatment instead of left in a field and covered in foam before getting run over by a fire truck.
