I guess they don't sell these up in The County.

Talk about a serious risk miscalculation. She would have been better off with a shattered windshield and tasty roadkill in lieu of the shattered windshield, wrecked home and possible lawsuit.

I almost went with that headline last night when I submitted this story but thought it might be too clichéd. Went with this instead.

I am one of those useless lower 48ers, but I have most of my extended family in Alaska. I was under the impression that a moose hit in a car was likely to be pretty damn injurious, though not necessarily fatal?

What a moose may think of this headline:

Exactly. Which is what I alluded to in my rejected submission, But (despite what it may seem like here) I'm over it.

Hitting a moose is not like running into Bambi. Moose are much taller than deer, and much heavier. The body that shatters your windshield is also going to shatter your skull.

*winces at GIS for moose collisions*

I stand corrected, fellow Farkers.

Aroostook. Makaila Bourgoine. New Sweden.

WTF?

Surely these can't be real names?

Even in America?

I laughed every time the "American Loggers" TV show had to use subtitles because of the French accent. And the locals anglo-cized every French surname in the area.

Any kind of animal bite can be dangerous, aside from the obvious risk of rabies.  It's amazing how many different kinds of anaerobic bacteria exist in animal saliva.  Many of them can cause serious infections, tissue damage, and gangrene.  For instance, a woman got bit by a donkey and nearly lost her index finger due to the massive infection.  Cats and dog bites cause diseases other than rabies.  Non-venomous snake bites, particularly those that live near stagnant water like swamps can cause loss of limb due to the multitudes of bacteria.  I wouldn't be surprised if a moose bite would cause severe tissue damage.
Oh.  Different kind of moose story...
Carry on.
