Do we pay off the bonds at face value (plus interest) or do we default and suffer hundreds of millions in rate hikes?

I live here, I know what they'll pick.

Assholes.

Old news, old debate.  The politicians will find a way to get a cut and the bills will be paid.

Either the state can do a fundraiser nightly at Foxy Lady's or they can ask some of their "friends" on Federal Hill to speak to Schilling to make him an offer he can't refuse.

One hell of a pitcher but a crappy video game company owner.

P.S.  If he didn't shake off Varitek he would of had his no hitter.

Shouldn't have given that money to a Republican. Especially someone as incompetent and hypocritical as Schilling.

Never made muc sense to why a state would issues bonds for a game company let alone one that was a relative unknown at the time, if it was EA or Capcom maybe but it wasn't.

They'll pick "delay it past the election so another governor can make the hard decision and take the resulting blame."

It's RISDIC all over again (from one Vo Dislanduh to another, you know what I'm talkin' about), which also means we'll probably get another .5% added to the sales tax for it.

Remember when dirty, commie Massachusetts laughed him out of the state when he asked for $75 million.

Thanks for the world series and all, but there's nothing worse then a "its good for me, not you" Republican looking for a handout.

Is it wrong that when I see 'Rhode Island' all I can think of is 'Great White/The Station'?

So in figures described in rhode islands, how much of a loss is this?

I believe there is a role for public investment in companies that provide some public good that might not otherwise be provided by pure capitalism.

But why the hell would any government invest in a video game company? Was Rhode Island afraid that free market was for some reason unable to provide a sufficient number of MMORGs? Given a choice between investing a hundred million on a health care, education, energy, transportation or a video game, they decided a video game was going to improve the quality of the average citizen's life the most?

Seriously, what the hell were they thinking?

I'm guessing they were thinking "Oh my god, this WORLD SERIES HERO is talking to me!  Ohmygod, ohmygod, ohmygod!"

Rhode Island's not known for having strong leadership.

On one hand, a state government bond at junk rates sounds pretty appealing. On the other hand, the fact that it got there at all is pretty scary.

The important people got rich so that's all that matters.

A libertarian being bailed out? Surely he would refuse the money, and pull himself up by his booststraps.

He faked that bloody sock too.  Study it out.

They should just sell the state to CT and be done with it.

So nothing of value was lost?
