I thought they had already released w00tstout 2.0.  Is this the next generation?  Or am I just not up and with it on things?

No, they just started brewing 2.0. It will be released in July, 2014, but initially only in Southern California. wil's twitter feed had quite a few pictures & vines of him, Drew & Aisha Tyler at Stone's adding ingredients to the brew.

Sugar is what makes alcohol. The yeast eats the sugar and craps out alcohol.

You had me at Chocolate Stout. Please tell me it will be found in Canada ... specific locations aren't important when beer hunting is involved, but anything within a days drive of Ottawa would be nice

I was fortunate enough to snag two bottles of w00tStout 1.0 (through a friend in Michigan). The first bottle tasted great last fall. The second bottle tasted fantastic last week.
Now I have to let my friend to keep on the lookout for 2.0 in July.
Yum!

My ex's fiance is keeping an eye out in the Raleigh area.  Was unsuccessful getting 1.0.  I'll have to say something about 2.0.

Chocolate in beer isn't uncommon.  Especially the heavier varieties like porters and stouts.  YMMV.  Some people like it.

Yeah, I know. I may lack sophistication, but I know what I like in beer. And chocolate isn't it. That's trick-beer.

I understand.

I usually prefer the lighter beers with a cleaner finish.  For example, I'm farking ga-ga over Bass Ale (I guess "lighter" is relative).  And Smithwicke's is my go-to when I can't think of anything else to get.  But I don't mind at least trying a stout or porter once in a while.  I had a freaking awesome dark ale in Victoria, BC, one time.  It bordered on porter.  It was also incredibly awesome.  So, I'm not afraid to try new stuff.

I also once tried a "black ale with hints of licorice."  That beer was farking nasty.  So, like I said before, YMMV.

Also:  I had an uncle who would drink Budweiser with chocolate cake.

I wonder if it is going to taste similar to Odell's Chocolate Milk Stout. No chance I'll get to try this Drewil, but sounds interesting.

Check local bottle shops (if you have those). I didn't think I'd get a chance on the first w00tstout, but Stone showed up at a nearby shop for a tasting and brought some.

I don't know if this has already been posted, but Wil Wheat Thin is apparently quite the home brewer, here is a link to his brew blog.

Also Northern Brewer is now selling a kit of an IPA recipe that Wil created.

Oh, cool - I was wondering if they'd do it again, considering the success of last year's brew. A few months ago, someone linked a beer slideshow in the Geek section that included W00tstock, which had been mostly sold out at the time. I took it as a hint that they might consider bringing it back.

So I take it this one will be brewed with chocolate, and not just a "chocolate stout" in terms of flavor profile. Question: is the wort made with cocoa powder, nibs, or the finished product?

If you're in California or Arizona, BevMo does beer shipping. I assume they'll carry this one again.

I wouldn't know about the other 48 states, though. I suppose you could still order it online, and I could pick it up at a local store. Of course, then the difficulty lies in finding me to retrieve the beer before I've drunk it all. ;-)
