Yet still no recalls for Fords, disastrous Triton engines which spit spark plugs out of the block, strip threads and break valves.

I'm always worried about Fords catching fire, which they are wont to do.

Hmmm. of the latest round I'd say the GM's are less likely to kill you.  I'll take the fuel gauge that doesn't work over the airbags that don't deploy.

I've got a lot of those engines.  We've had the spark plug issue, and we were able to correct that problem with a simple tool.  Never had the broken valves problem.  Maybe that's due to driver training.

Kind of expensive, but it works and it will fix more than one vehicle.

750,000?

That is absolutely amateurish compared to Toyota's numbers.

Wat.  The GM recall was about cars spontaneously bursting into flames.  Besides, the airbags are a software issue; they'll take 15 minutes to fix (assuming consumers get their cars to the dealer).

Just before Easter, my Expedition started running really rough, and check engine light started blinking.  Had it checked at Oreilly's, and was told #4 misfiring.  So I bought plugs, but chickened out after looking at where they were and took it in.  Turns out the #4 cop was bad, so had all that done and an O2 sensor changed.  It ran a lot better, then the #8 cop went out just two days ago.  This time, I bought the part and did it myself.  It purrs, and I was feeling bad for taking it in the first time, but now I don't.  I would've hate to have had a plug problem in my driveway.  It was expensive enough, but to add a towing fee on top of that would've been too much.  Also, I want to thank the engineer who set it up so I didn't have to fish the serpentine belt through the fan.  For such a simple thing, it was genius.

This.  And airbags may save lives, but you can still survive a crash without one, and the Ford doesn't cause the crash.

The exterior door handles can get stuck in the open position, become tough to close, or open while driving.

So in a Ford Escape, you might make an unintentional one?

I bought a new Chevy Equinox LT last year and I haven't burned to death yet!

My first car didn't have airbags in it and I didn't die when involved in an accident.

/Wasn't a minor fender bender
//The front was sheered off by a Jeep racing another vehicle
///Drove other non-airbag equipped vehicles for years after
////Somehow, I still lived

Race to the bottom, in the name of saving $0.10 per vehicle.

Sure!! It's much better bursting into flames instead of having an airbag fail in the minuscule off chance that you roll your car.

As in their choice of underpowered, European "let's put turbochargers on everything" engineering even if they're less reliable (and more costly) than not cutting out displacement?

Good, now Ford can return to being a bit more American than they were under Mulally.

Friends don't let friends swap displacement for expensive forced air.
