I would like to see someone rerun the original series, but it was PBS so I don't think anyone will.

Great, another religious network

You know what?  Atheism doesn't need a TV channel.  Science, the study that leads us away from religion might, but atheism itself is the mere absence of something.

You don't need a "non-driver's" channel to match the car oriented channel.  Or a "non pet-owner" channel to counter animal planet.

Atheist TV? So are they going to start 100% reality TV or gradually work their way up to it?

"Watch this group of Atheists spend a morning at Sunday Mass!"

They'll go out the exact same way TechTV did.  Bought out by a more "generalist" network and immediately migrated to 50% reality TV.

Great idea, we could call it something snazzy for all discovery stuff that science does.  And we could have one that takes a more academic view of history.  Add one that could over all sort random cool stuff, you know some sort of general learning channel. I'll leave the naming to the marketing folks.

I'm sure they make mad bank!

Just a faith-in-humanity-destroying reminder that The Pickup Artist is a real TV show.

WWE has found a new home?

Because I was sure there was no God when it started appearing on the Sci Fi network.

NatGeo was running the original in the week(s) prior to the new Cosmos. Not surprising, because they're also airing the new Cosmos the day after it airs on Fox.

coming soon to the atheist channel the new show 'death is eternal'

it takes a close look at average, every day people and the deafening silence of the impact of their lives on the world around them. we examine the ways everyone moves on, bringing lie to individual purpose. employers rehire, loved ones heal, the government bureaucracy files some forms, and then that person is functionally forgotten. eventually, those loved ones die too.

Today on Talk Athiest, we are going to cover two vexing issues with the athiest community.  We will start off with a round table on why people of religion are a bunch of inbred morons who believe in a sky wizzard and why they should be shunned or force sterilized.  Then to finish off the 6 hour show we will talk about why the athiest community has trouble conversing and deriving understanding from the religious community at large.

I don't think Carl Sagan was an atheist, at least not in the strictest use of the term.

"An atheist has to know a lot more than I know. An atheist is someone who knows there is no god. By some definitions atheism is very stupid."

Yep. You can get torrents of it too. I have a nice copy of the old Sagan cosmos an all episodes of the new one so far loaded on my tablet.

Throw in reruns of Nova, Nature, any David  Attenborough narrateddocumentary, and other non-Discovery produced Science shows and I will pay.

You know, NASA should get in on this too.  They could help create a channel made to help children and adults discover space and science.

Hmm....I wonder what we could call a channel like that?

I'm sure that channel will be around a very long time.

FTA-" The station, which does not have a name as of yet, is meant to serve as a counter to the hundreds of atheist television stations. "

Which atheist television stations are those and how would it counter them?

Considering it's a Roku channel, it will be gone long before that ever happens. There is too much interesting stuff on the Roku to bother with reality tv. The Roku cut my cable nearly 5 years ago.

What about the agnostic channel? Where you are never really sure its a commercial or a program?

An agnostic atheist is someone who "thinks" there is no god. A gnostic atheist "knows" there's no god. It was the gnostic atheists that Carl was referring too. He could very easily have been an agnostic atheist himself...although he may have seen god personally after having smoked some particularly purple bud. Who knows?

The author makes a good point, if the channel is overtly preachy nobody but hardcore atheists are going to watch.  They should have interesting things, Cosmos is a good example.  There should be informative lectures regarding science, physiology, evolution, there are a ton of things that are interesting without watching people biatch about creationists ad nauseum.

It's the same reason I would never watch a christian network.  It's all super preachy nonsense.

There's nothing an agnostic can't do if he doesn't really know if he believes in anything or not.

I think I know what you're getting at.  It would be a place were people could learn new and exciting things...

As long as you are limiting to recent Discovery produced shows. They have had their hand in some really great stuff, such as When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions, before they turned to complete shiat.

/do they really have a show called Dude, You're Screwed?

Well, we once had the Science Channel and Discovery Channel (and one can argue SciFi), but those got sold down the "reality TV" river. Won't be long before this one is also.

That's nothing. I plan to start a new channel for people who are too good to own a television.

maddogdelta: oldernell: I would like to see someone rerun the original series, but it was PBS so I don't think anyone will.

If only there was a mass communication system available which also included moving pictures, on demand, sort of like a moving body of water, a stream maybe.

It stands to reason such a system or "stream" if you will, would flow best through a series of tubes right?

Also, I would love if there were a place to watch old Nova, Connections, classic Discovery shows, etc. Yes you can find them scattered throughout the internet if you're looking. But a cool think about TV is that you can just trun it on and watch what's playing. That's what I liked about the old Discovery, History, TechTV, etc channels. Whatever was on might not have been something I was thinking about watching, but most of it was at least truly entertaining. But I think I, and those who feel the same, must be in the minority. Obviously non-stop Ice Road Crab Fishing Loggers who sell shiat at pawn shops is where the money is. I'd love to be able to just flip a screen on and not know if I'm gonna get some classic The Screen Savers or Nova, but enjoying either.
