Why can't there be more cops like this?  This is a good reminder that they're not ALL sociopath assholes on a power trip.

2014-05-09 09:36:39 AM
And then shot him.

2014-05-09 09:37:23 AM
But then he shot the bed, furniture, TV and Wii right?

2014-05-09 09:43:17 AM
Did he at least shoot the inflatable mattress?

It's because they didn't have a dog.  Because he didn't have to show up & shoot the dog that the whole thing came out ok....

/seriously though, someone taking an interest in their community is the kind of police we need & not the 'roided out Ramboesque thugs we always seem to read about.

A cop bought me a cherry that had no stone.

A cop bought me a chicken that had no bones.

That cherry was a bagina, that chicken a Chik-Fil-Ayyyyy

The cop can take them both back

Because I've decided to be the gayyyyyyy.

Unlike that boot story this kid seems in legit need, and the officer isn't going to get hosed by the media. Good on the people who donated and this cop.

James!: But seriously a Wii? That's old technology.

Cop's probably on a budget.  Or stole his kid's Wii.

2014-05-09 11:05:01 AM
This is not a good cop, a good cop would've notified social services and left it at that. This is a cop that went above and beyond, God bless you sir.

2014-05-09 11:05:24 AM
Cops used to be community builders, I don't know when they became sociopaths thugs for the status quo.

Alternately, has the publicity now made this kid's house a robbery target?  Is the kid now in danger because of the cop's generosity?

Oh great...

Cop sees a kid with nothing.

Says, you know what?

That's a kid who going to get out there and make things happen. I better stop that.

I know, I'll get him a Wii.

And some Cheetos.

That's the ticket, problem solved.

He tried to buy the kid a puppy, too but after shooting up a whole pet store he gave up on that.

But really, good to hear about the rare good apple in the bunch.

it will come out that the kid was actually George Zimmerman in skinny jeans and a beiber haircut, these stories always turn out bad...

Ahhem, excuse me, Free will. God basically sat us down in a room filled with legos. What you do with those legos is your choice, and the results of the choices of others.

Amazingly, when you create a vastly complex and interactive system with near infinite pieces and parts, shiat will happen that the creator can do nothing about.

Which is why Christianity is so silly: To god, you are just a single thread in a vastly complex piece of software. what makes you think he thinks of you as a precious, individual snowflake that he needs to rewrite the program to acommodate?

Don't really say in the article why the kid lacked many of those things. Mom could very well pawn off the Wii and stuff depending on the situation.

You can still love someone without meddling in their life. In at least some Christian perspectives, this life is a tiny blip in eternity where at least part of the purpose is to learn how good we have it as God's children... by contrast. Saving us from suffering would sort of spoil the lesson. Seems long until you're old. Then it seems short. When you're dead? Probably seems like a moment. I'll let you know when I get there, lol.

FTA:  Simmons told Acerra that because of the new bed, his back won't hurt anymore.

Jesus, a thirteen year old shouldn't be having back aches. I wonder how his first night in a bed was like. Waking up to a normal back.

Yeah, this is the type of story where this kid grows up to be a cop because of this officer reaching out to him and making him know that someone gave a damn. It's practically a Hollywood cliche.

Yeah that was my thought, the kid is obviously in need, the cop did the right thing, but if the mom is a piece of crap, the kid's situation will not be improved.

No no, a cop behaving like this is news. Because it's rare. Unlike the dog shooting and so forth. But good for him. We need more who behave like this

Prophet of Loss: A few drops of clear water in the cesspool that is American Law Enforcement.

I get really angry at abuses of power and how they are covered up, but I also listen to local scanners quite a bit.  Most of the officers out there are helping a lot of people.  It makes me all the angrier when an asshole shoots someone for no good reason.  I wish the police unions took the same angle.

You'd think they would, given that even 1% of assholes makes everyone else look bad. Tribal loyalty I guess?
