Maybe we could just do it for sweeps week.

2014-05-09 08:11:48 AM
I saw a video of a dude who got 20 lashes for drinking beer in Saudi Arabia.  Not sure a guy would still have an ass after 1000 lashes.

2014-05-09 09:02:56 AM
Yes...but not the half you would think.

2014-05-09 09:03:29 AM
Drew won't go to Saudia Arabia cuz no beer.

2014-05-09 09:21:34 AM
Our good ally eh?

Hey the TSA thinks I'm grope-worthy, let's just add Saudi Arabi to the list.

2014-05-09 09:50:26 AM
Half? Hell every one on this site would be in line for beating.

2014-05-09 09:51:23 AM
But there'd be no politics tab .... it's a toss up

Three cheers for the religion of peace.

And thus we'd need a different UFI acronym.

Aside from climate change, this is the other reason I am big proponent of getting off of fossil fuels.  The only reason dicks have enough power and money to pulls this shiat off is because of oil revenues.  Dry it up and tell them to fark off.  They'll still get some petro money because we'll still need to make plastics and the like, but it will be a whole lot less.

Isn't this whole separation of church and state we've got going on pretty sweet?

2014-05-09 09:56:07 AM
Some college exchange student from Saudi tried to convert me to Islam last week when I was at a Panera last week. After that fell through, he wanted to take pictures of my dog. Weird guy.

2014-05-09 09:56:13 AM
Wait, wait, you mean to tell me that in Saudi Arabia, Drew would be caned  for free?  Do you have  any idea how much he has to pay for that here?

2014-05-09 09:56:41 AM
Sure makes sense.  The nut balls over there are freedom fighters and we are the terrorist.

2014-05-09 09:57:38 AM
Sounds like an average Fark party.

We can't condemn this out of hand. We need to be respectful of their culture and social mores, which have been constructed by time honored traditions springing from native practices. Something that *looks* morally repugnant to us doesn't to their eyes and that has to be respected.

This is a proud native peoples that choose to participate in their culture in the way that their traditions instruct them to and it's not for us to judge what's "right" and "wrong" for them, especially given the incalculable, monstrous, inhuman damages and evils we inflicted on them thanks to colonialism and slavery.

No it doesn't

I've been to Saudi Arabia twice and got onto Fark no problem. Now some of the links are not available, but not for the reasons you would think. If a news article is hosted on a banned site it's not available. Funny thing is most of the banned websites tend to be gossip or celebrity based, like TMZ and the like.

And the princes and kings of Saudi go to England and party with booze, boys, women and the best money can buy. It's good to be royalty.

Yeah, but that would be different because their religion is the one true one.

The gulf state also demanded all criticism of religion and of the Prophet Mohammed be made illegal in Norway.

The upper classes in Saudi Arabia tend to be educated, often in foreign universities. They have to know that the only reaction in Norway to this demand will be mild amusement. This just doesn't make sense. The Saudis I've met (in the US, so biased sample of course) have tended to be very sane and worldly.

Norway is one of their biggest competitors in Europe, and (for all I know) might be making inroads into other markets. This might be a way for Saudi Arabia to put pressure on countries with significant Muslim populations, trying to keep them from buying oil from Norway.

The arab world in general were some of the biggest players in the slave trade before slavery completely fell out of favour.

10/10, and it would be typical hegemonic right-wing racist thuggery to suggest you deserved less.

Big Ramifications: B-b-but the Crusades!

You really think Western military action in the Middle East ended after the Crusades?

On August 8, 1944, the Anglo-American Petroleum Agreement was signed, dividing Middle Eastern oil between the United States and Britain.

In 1953, the CIA worked with the United Kingdom to overthrow the democratically elected government of Iran

. . . oh, never mind. I'll be here all day if I try to list them all.

Funny how it's only Fark conservatives who keep using the "religion of peace" label.

Nah, it just them playing  the same inbred, xenophobia, fear loving conservatives in their country that exist in all countries.  Keep the populace afraid of the scary furriners and let them know that only the king has the power to keep them from taking your women away from you.

I think they actually break up the lashings.  I saw an episode of Locked Up Abroad where this guy was in Saudi prison for a few years and they'd come and grab you one day unexpectedly and dish out a few lashes at a time.

I think 1000 lashes would actually kill most people if done all at once.
