Definitely.  Normal day here in Japan.  I think people find it stranger that I *don't* wear a mask in the winter here.

The masks are completely over-hyped and misunderstood.  They're worn largely to prevent the spread of disease and allergens, and yet they must remain on consistently for that to be effective.  People pull down their masks to sip drinks, eat snacks and blow their nose constantly.  As soon as they do the benefit is mostly gone.  Others wear masks that don't seem to fit properly, and I'm not sure what benefit they gain from those.

Younger girls wear masks a lot to disguise bad teeth, pimples or what they perceive as an ugly appearance from their peers.  They've even become somewhat fashionable recently.

It's all pretty strange to me.

fark the mask.  Did Jared get laid??  'cuz that it what it really takes for "a magical night they will all remember forever."

Westerners wear sunglasses that hide their eyes even when the intensity of sunlight is nowhere near what would make them necessary. The behavior could have similar roots.

/In all honestly though I always thought the point of mirrored sunglasses was so you could check out chicks at the beach without getting busted by them or your girlfriend

All kind of dumb really. Nobody were jerks when I was growing up. Wearing a mask doesn't show support any more than just being a friend and a good person. Everyone gonna gain weight because a fat kid can't get laid next?

Your are much more likely to get a serious infection from your own gut flora then any common airborne spread pathogen when severe chemotherapy induced immunosuppression is present.  ID doc I worked with almost found it comically for these patients being forced to wear masks, but I guess it doesn't hurt.

I wonder what the administration would've thought if the kids were gonna wear masks for any other reason. Methinks not so well, but... Hey, it was a nice touch from the kids. 18's a hell of a time to start dealing with cancer.

taglius: testicular cancer in a teenager?  That's nuts

If I'm not mistaken, testicular cancer tends to happen in younger men....teens through early 20's, doesn't it?  It's possible at any age, but I've heard that is the highest percentage.  Last fall I went to my doc with a pain in my left nut, and he said at 29 I was a little too old to be in the main crosshairs of the disease.

Of course, to be safe, he still sent me to get a testicular ultrasound from a young intern named Nikki.  Wowza.  The things your insurance will pay for...

The likely follow-up story these days would be how they were all subsequently suspended and not allowed to graduate due to the school district's no-tolerance anti-gang policy prohibiting the wearing of masks to school events.

Yeah juvenile testicular cancer isn't commonplace but it's more likely than you think.
Luckily, it's also one of the more curable forms of cancer.
At the age of 16, the son of a friend had to have surgery then chemo.
He had a year of hell but be's good to go, now.
He still has one of his marbles so he's happy.

^^This.  Can't they get it in a color or something?  I mean, they have the creepy mouth masks, you'd think a black one or red one would be an option.  Freaking match the tux, yo.

Really. So tell us about the time you had cancer and nobody did this and you were fine with that. Be sure to include the cancer type and how long it lasted because you're not getting credit for having a mole removed that layer tested positive.

Having an MD is no guarantee of being right or smart about everything, even (perhaps especially) within one's own specialty. I've met a lot of stupid opinions in the medical community, opinions-- and recommendations based on them-- that made their peers face-palm. And, more than once, ask for the person's name with intent to follow up.

Good luck with the IFIA. Yes, it *is* every bit as weird and uncomfortable as you imagine. Not painful though, so there's that.

And this is why at the hospital, behind your back everyone calls you Dr. Dick. Know why your car is still "your baby?" Hint: your profile is wrong... the reason you "can't meet anybody" *isn't* because you've been in school so long.
