Ummm...this is why I watch superhero movies when they come out.  The everything Hollywood comes out with is crap.

A spinning wheel certainly can be a lethal weapon

So they are reboot the definition of the odd ball buddy cop movie?

2014-05-08 05:17:25 PM
Working under the project name Lionhunters, the plot apparently focuses on the son of one of the characters who wants to join the police force. Whether that leaves room for a handover from old characters to new is one of many issues that would need to be addressed.

Is it really a reboot if you have the same actors playing the same characters?

2014-05-08 05:25:12 PM
it's everyone's fault, really. if movies weren't such a gamble and people weren't so averse to watching unique films, the studios would produce better ones.

I wonder if there will be a shooting and someone will claim "Diplomatic Immunity!", then proceed to get his brains blown out.

Indeed.  If true, this would be a sequel, or perhaps a spin-off.

Let's really shake things up: the crazy cop should be a parapalegic, wheelchair-bound, homosexual, asian woman who's a lousy shot, and the straight cop should be white, short, bald, f-ing ugly, lives alone, not that smart, and has a pet tarantula called Bojangles.

They should drive a modified Ford Econoline van, obey the traffic laws, and when they finally meet Joe Pesci, shoot him in the head.

Do a kick starter. I'll pay to see that.

So, since Danny Glover's getting too old for this shiat, does that mean Mel gets a new partner?

I thought Lethal Weapon 2 was the better one, could we go straight past the suck to the good one?

A sort of percursor to Lethal Weapon was a little gem called "Freebe and the Bean" released in 1974.

Hey Hollywood why can't you do anything original? Why reboot everything?

"Well, what do you wanna hear, man? Do you wanna hear that sometimes I think about eatin' a bullet? Huh? Well, I do! I even got a special bullet for the occasion with a hollow point, look! Make sure it blows the back of my goddamned head out and do the job right! Every single day I wake up and I think of a reason not to do it! Every single day! You know why I don't do it? This is gonna make you laugh! You know why I don't do it? The job! Doin' the job! Making shiatty movies. Now that's the reason!"

I don't mind the remakes, but what I do mind is they take what was usually an "R" rated movie and make it "PG-13" so no they may get the biggest audience but all the action is neutered. Robocop was Rated R back in the 80s, but the remake is PG-13. No studio really wants to make an R movie and lose potential audience. If the Lethal Weapon remake is Rated R then it has a chance.

48 Hours can't be made today.  You end up with Rush Hour.  You don't get the grit that existed because the urban areas are completely revamped outside of Detroit and Chicago, and Chicago PD makes Chicago look like Disneyland with crime, where Homicide and early Law and Order made their respective cities look like real slums.  You need that slum vibe to make a movie like that, and not many are willing to go find it where it still exists(Training Day, Four Brothers, and Narc were the closest to approaching it in recent years).

That's what I thought. Pretty much every action flick since 1989 has been a remake of either Lethal Weapon or Die Hard.

There was a cogent article on a Cracked video where the guy explained why buddy cop movies were pretty much done., like westerns are now one off successes.

More a TNG. I wanna see the Briggs charachter come back as a senior desk jockey.

It's not going to be a reboot, it is going to be a random script with the popular name tacked on and the characters names changed so the can get a bump to ticket sales by using the name.

The only way I can see this working:

Tom Hardy as Riggs
Terry Crews as Murtaugh

Crews is too ripped to be Murtaugh.  Need a Forest Whitaker or Charles S Dutton type(if you wanted to keep the black/white theme of the original).  Plus, Murtaugh was the stable family man.  Crews is better playing Riggs than Murtaugh, because dude is great at playing farking nuts.

Trying to flip it around a bit. Riggs is the calm, stable one and Murtaugh is the wildman.

Tom Hardy... he's great at going between amusing, emotional, suave (Inception) and psychotic (e.g. Bronson). I agree with the other person, who mentioned a Forrest Whitaker-type for the foil.

Gibson's character wasn't anti-Semitic though. In fact ironically he kept calling the bad guys in LW2 Nazis and was accused of being a "kaffir lover".

I don't see Chris Hemsworth in the Mel Gibsons part.  Jason Statham maybe but  not Chris Hemsworth.  As for the Danny Glover role why not cash in on current fads and have it be a gay guy or a chick.

I started smoking as a teen because of lethal weapon.  I wanted to be Martin Riggs, still kinda do.  sucks getting old
