They survive by scavenging for food on the ocean floor, including the decomposing bodies of dead whales, fish, and squid

mmm, delicious I can't wait to eat the thing that eats that.

Pretty sure they're cousins to pillbugs ("rolypolys").  That and the shark are still nightmare fuel though.

I had a video taken at work (I work on deepwater ROV's) of an eel thrashing the shiat out of a sea roach. Unfortunately the hard drive I had it on became the victim of a 19vdc plug that matched its 12vdc port and fried it...

Shrimp are nightmare fuel, too, until you pull off the head and legs, but plenty of people still enjoy them. I wonder what the sea roaches taste like, someone in this world had to have tried them, right?

From what I could find, they taste like sweet crab meat.

Supposedly, pill bugs taste great, too; you collect a bunch, pop them like popcorn, and they taste like crab.  Never really been that desperate.

Krustofsky: Tziva: Those things are so cool. Like a giant snuggly rolypoly.

From what I can find, pill bugs and marine isopods are both in Order, well, Isopoda. The "giant roaches" here are marine isopods, whereas roly-polys are terrestrial isopods. And I'm with Tziva on this one; they're both pretty lovable. There just aren't that many cuddly-seeming arthropods. These though... yeah. Not nightmare fuel. Not even close.

/The goblin shark, on the other hand...

Has anyone tried eating an isopod?  I volunteer to try it, provided some tests are done to provide reasonable assurance it isn't poisonous to humans.  Hell, I've eaten beondaegi.  This can't be any worse.

Point of order. Most arthropods taste with their extremities. (Feet, antenna, etc.)
