Let me get this out of the way:

When the "Shawn of the Dead"/"Hot Fuzz" guys want to remake Liam Neelson action flicks in 20 years, call Maisie Williams.

Maisie Williams I think is better looking with better eyes and lips, her eyes are also closer together and larger which helps her look better.

Lorde reminds me of an article I read in Rolling Stone about when Avril Lavigne was getting popular. There was a 2 or 3 page article all about her and she kept going on and on about how she writes songs all of the time and her guitar is never too far from her. Within that article there was a 4 or 5 paragraph article about the 6 or 7 person professional writing team behind all of her songs.

Lorde is no different. She is at best an average singer with no impressive musical talent.

I dunno why, but Lorde's 17 looks like kind of a hard 17.  And Maisie's looks kind of young for that too.  I would never have guessed their ages correctly.

She's from New Zealand.  Other than the Maori natives, it's a whole island of chavs.

That's the reality of it, for pretty much any mainstream artist. There have been times when that wasn't so much the case, but even then, those people already had a following before they got signed. Major labels are even less risk averse today than they were 10-15 years ago. Now it's 100% image, 0% substance. Songwriting teams write songs to fit the image. Lorde happens to have gotten herself the 'artsy' image, so her music is what a bunch of cynical jingle writers think artsy sounds like.

Lorde is basically the Rage Against the Machine of this era. Railing against pop-music/culture while making millions off of it while her label promotes this image of an angry, young, and independent artist.

She didn't. She's from a very affluent part of NZ and the money to send her to exclusive and expensive music schools didn't materialize out of nowhere.

Something else that is equal parts funny and awesome A Motown Tribute to Nickelback

Some people think that anyone who wears a lot of black & doesn't smile is a goth, just like anyone with Buddy Holly glasses & a plaid shirt is a hipster. "I don't understand this therefore I must label it!"
