(Medical Daily)   Concussion recovery takes longer for men than for women. Apparently it depends on whether your wife hits you over the head with a frying pan or a shovel   (medicaldaily.com ) divider line

Bu... bu... but... i've been told men and women brains are exactly the same and that there is absolutely no difference in brain functions that can't be explained away by "nurture". So clearly, our sexist society is socializing boys to have a lower recovery rate from concussions.

Don't get concussed, it really does have lifelong implications.

Yes, but men can come faster.

Ahhh, Shovel Girl:  Springfield, Ohio's ambassador to the world.

I love that sound when the shovel makes contact.  I can't tell if the sonic properties are due to her head being hollow, or completely solid.

As I learned in Anchorman, women's brains are smaller so they have more cushoning.

Well according to renowned "Doctor" Sterling Archer, it doesn't matter because you get like 3 freebies anyway.

Time for experimentation! You know, for science!

Bring me more people from Springfield!

Bigger brains, longer recovery. Seems simple to me.

It's because women's brains are better protected.  Evolutionary change produced by generations of women having their heads pounded against headboards.

Clinically this has been known for decades via clinical report and long-term rehabilitation follow-up research of patients. What this Radiology article represents, however, is another disciplinary perspective on gender differences for mTBI recovery. All it really adds is saying that neurologists and neuropsychologists have another diagnostic tool at their disposal, one that measures structural changes to white matter tracts (as opposed to most structural neuroimaging techniques which measure gray matter) that result from mTBI. This allows clinical and medical researchers to test various theoretical propositions as to why there are these differences in recovery trajectory (and changes to FA has been suspected to be a key component ever since the phenomenon was discovered; similarly, mechanism of neurological insult is suspected, as not all concussions are created equal), but it doesn't really showcase anything dramatically new.

Oh, shut the f*ck up, you disingenuous troll. Argue against strawman positions in the politics tab.

Looks like someone was socialized by our society to be an overly sensitive little biatch. Or maybe it's genetic. I'm sure researchers will eventually figure it out.

Have they isolated whether there's a connection between longer recovery times and sports-related concussions?

Don't ever hit your mother with a shovel... it leaves a dull impression on her mind...
