I'm not really seeing much of a problem here. Granted, I'm willing to let a lot more slide than, for example, PETA or AIPAC or the ADL, but it's not like the mailer in question was of the Onward Christian Soldiers bent.

Surprised this even got greenlit.  The amount of Dumbocrats here usually mean they circle the wagons pretty good, though in this case the party was not mentioned in the headline, like it would have been if it was Republican.

Carry on, libtards.

My take is that various groups, like the JDL, want to keep Holocaust imagery from being co-opted* by things like political campaigns. There would be a gradual dilution of the impact and meaning of the original images. IMO they're right to be concerned.

Think of the sarcasm that has resulted from 1960s anti-establishment "anthem" songs by The Who and Bob Dylan being used in car commercials. Nowadays I find it hard to hear the line "won't be fooled again" without picturing a moodily-lit black sedan crossing a bridge or something. At best the song has become meaningless; at worst, a cynical mockery of its original intent.

This was an act of Dumbocrat, but he immediately saw the mistake and corrected it. When your beloved Republicans say that signing people up for health care is equivalent to Nazis tracking citizens for concentration camps, they either seriously believe it and double down or are so seriously disturbed about a black president that they are driven say such and double down.

I'm guessing that is Auschwitz then.   Those arched barb wire stanchions do look familiar.

I suppose depending where the train and its passengers were coming from dictated which sign they put up that day.

Not sure what is has to do with Fresno politics though.

Unlikely. Auschwitz was in Poland. And it looks painted, not "sign of the day". I am now driven to find which camps were in Croatian speaking territory.

On one hand I can't see where anyone would be stupid enough to put Auschwitz on a political flier.  On the other hand, I can't see where anyone would be stupid enough to look at that picture and not say "That looks an awful lot like a concentration camp."

I guess I can see that argument, but I disagree. The systematic murder of 12 million people by their "enlightened" countrymen sort of speaks for itself, methinks; and if the horror of that can't be conveyed simply by stating that first clause, 10,000 defenders of the imagery won't matter.

The other is Auschwitz.

A very pathetic campaign, as if they would really struggle to find many examples of abandoned property in Fresno they had to use Auschwitz as an example? The pr company or worker should be fired.

Why? It got attention, didn't it?

Jasenovak. If it's Jasenovak because it says STOJ! ie Croatian for halt, then it's even worse than Auschwitz. While the Germans did industrial strength killing, at Jasenovak the guards did everything to torture and slash. Sending the women and children to gas chambers vs. telling the mothers to hand over the kids for baptism then throwing the baby in the air to have the mother watch it land on the dagger. For starters.

Meh, I understand your wanting to rely on the sensitivities of people.  It's hard to imagine folks who wouldn't be stunned by that first clause, and harder to imagine reaching the folks who wouldn't.

But pictures have power that words don't, and sometimes the right picture will break through when a person has been a brick wall to all else.  But it's less likely to happen if the person has already been exposed to that photo under less consequential conditions.  Essentially it pre-conditions them; they're inoculated against the effect.  Sort of a visual equivalent of the straw-man tactic in rhetorics.

That's my take anywho.
