Boo_Guy: I'm sure their families will be getting some of that 9-11 fund to help with medical costs any day now.

Were any of these illnesses/deaths classified as being caused by 9/11 just so there would be more funds available?  Better survivor's benefits?

Not making any accusation, just asking the question.  The way governments classify things and what they decide to pay for or not pay for is pretty strange at times.

fusillade762: Friction8r: jso2897: More people died in our pointless, idiot responses to 9/11 than died on 9/11 - by several orders of magnitude.

Our response in Afghanistan was well deserved and an excellent reminder to the world not to screw with us. Also we improved out military technology in the process. ..which is nice.

Yes, an excellent reminder that we can be provoked into expending massive amounts of treasure and lives to accomplish almost nothing.

No, its a reminder to the world that if we are attacked we can reach out to any corner of the world and offer up a completely thorough can of incomprehensible whoopass on short notice. I hope we don't have to remind anybody again now for several more decades, but those who don't learn from history seemed doomed to repeat it. I think they got the message for now.

Well, even though we got humiliated and run out of the country by a bunch of goatherds with 1950s weapons, we've won the war of the internet tough guys. They got the message alright - the message that Americans are loudmouthed, bullying pussies who start fights they can't finish - like Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and so on.
Meanwhile, our actual attackers, the Saudis, are safe because they have oil.

Please feel free to tell any of the troops who served in Afghanistan that we lost the war...to goatherds and 50 ' s weapons as well. Good luck with that.

I take it as a reminder that if the US was a person, he's the person that will respond to someone shiatting on their lawn by driving a tank into the house of a random guy he doesn't like and then start shooting the kids of the dude who did the shiatting.

what discussion?

That's what I came here hoping for. Instead of talking about illness caused/not caused by 9/11, what could have caused those illnesses, were they really caused by 9/11, stories about what happened to first responders that day, or the issues they have or haven't dealt with since then with their health, or you know, anything at all related to the farking topic, I find a typical cop hate circle jerk.

not that I'm surprised really, you types aren't exactly deep thinkers. Really, "kill yourself" lulz!

This is a bizarre thread.

I wonder which group has has done more to protect Americans since 9/11. Soldiers in Afghanistan, or the police here?

Cop hate is appropriate in cop hate threads - and there are plenty of them, due to the way the police often act.
A thread about cops that are dying because they acted like they are supposed to act is maybe not the appropriate place for it.

Had a buddy who was a paramedic in Newark that was one of the first responders in NYC after 9/11. He got diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2002 and passed away after a 6 year fight.

9/11 fund didn't cover him at all because "cancer."

The EPA knew or should have known this was going to be a problem because the Towers themselves were going to require billions in renovations to remove aebestos (that's why Silverstein was able to buy the buildings for so cheap).  This was massive criminal negligence at the least and mass murder at the worst.

But Asbestosis takes many more years to present itself.  That said, undoubtedl first responders, residents, lookie-loos probably injested a whole host of crap while down there, the effects of which may not be know for many years.

Why do so many people here on fark refer to cops like they are some entirely different species that can be generalized to such an extent that when one cop from across the country farks up, the ENTIRE "race" is to blame and be disrespected? Like honestly.... da hell? YOU CUNFUZLES MAH TOASTER.

Two main reasons.

They are angry about a prior incident they were involved in or heard/read about. Or they don't want to get called a "boot licker" by the first group.
