Define "more". Is it higher quality spying, or is Israel just keeping close tabs on our stand-up comedians?

Yes, but we don't have the same relationship with other nations that we do with Israel.  France's dick isn't permanently lodged in the State Department's tonsils.

So? Do you think Americans would be surprised or concerned to learn that the US spies on Israel all of the time? No? Then turnabout is fair game.

Go head - find me campaign statements from that half of the Knesset that include phrases like "Support the United States" and "Do everything in our power to support US interests."  Please proceed.  Go ahead.  We'll wait.

1) Every other nation spies on every other nation.  Israel is just really good at it because they're surrounded by enemies who outnumber them a lot, use underhanded tactics, and for cultural reasons don't respond well to preemptive surprise attacks.

2) Look, the abridged History of the Jews is:

* Big dog likes us, we're doing awesome.  Glad I'm not Levi in the next country over because they're having problems.
* Time passes.
* Big Dog hates us, Oh g-d pogroms.  Run to the next country over where they like us.

So they have a vested inbred national and racial interest in knowing exactly WTF America, the current Big Dog, thinks of them.

So, if I'm reading TFA right, Israel "spies" on the US more than anyone else, if by "spying" you mean "lifting tech/trade secrets" and by "on the US" you mean "as part of joint trade missions with US companies".

So Israelis aren't trying to get into Los Alamos and steal maps on where we store nuclear fuel, not looking for weaknesses in our national defenses - really just getting a leg up on the technological competition. Far better than the Chinese, who just steal trade secrets straight from the factories at which they're used.

Still not a great way to be, Israel; but way to make a mountain out of an igloo, media.

Newsweek said a congressional staffer familiar with a briefing last January called the testimony "very sobering ... alarming ... even terrifying"

"No other country close to the United States continues to cross the line on espionage like the Israelis do,"

"But when you step back and hear ... that there are no other countries taking advantage of our security relationship the way the Israelis are for espionage purposes, it is quite shocking."

This is just from this article, there are dozens more spanning back decades.

You obviously have a desire to trivialize this, but our own government knows better.

Israelis don't - I'd bet large swaths of the country hasn't heard of him. For Jews stateside, and American expats in Israel, Pollard is a totemic example of a system stacked against them.

I don't much care for Pollard (paranoiacs have a way of turning me off), but mention his name around here, and America is a nuthair away from passing Nuremburg Laws.

jst3p: Any day now I am sure being God's "chosen" people is gonna start working out for them!

Any day now.

Some people have tried to peg early Christian Gnostics as anti-semites because of their belief that Jehovah is the devil. Therefore, it is argued, they must have believed Jews are the devil's chosen people.

But Jehovah as the devil is the corrupt warden of a maximum security prison full of chronically violent offenders. He singles out a group of inmates, and announces to the prison that they're his "special, chosen inmates." He beams about how they "do better at obeying all the rules then the rest of you worthless thugs." He announces that they're therefore going to get special privileges available to no other inmates.

Either that devil warden is epically stupid (a defensible reading of the OT--everything up to the flood can be read as one long "did I do thaaaaat?"). Or he really doesn't like those inmates very much at all.

Truth is, it was a different time, and many Gnostic Christians no doubt were anti-semites. But there's nothing more inherently anti-semitic about Gnostic Christianity than orthodox Christianity. Orthodox Christianity's history of anti-semitism surely supports that conclusion.

HotWingConspiracy: Sorry, I thought your attempt to trivialize it indicated a desire to trivialize it.

OK, ass, let me explain:

TFH suggests that Israel spies on (engages in political espionage against) the US far more than anyone else. TFA limits this to industrial espionage of a very specific type - trade secrets stolen during trade missions.

This, ass, is not debatable - this is fact.

What is also fact is that Israel doesn't take trade secrets from the US on anywhere close to the scale the Chinese do - the Chinese, who don't have to travel here to take trade secrets, as we freely send them there.

Finally, ass, I ended by saying it is not good for Israel to have done this (if, indeed, they have, and the anonymous staffer is correct, as we're both assuming they are), but the problem as presented (OMG Israel's spying on ERRYTHANG!) is not the problem as defined (Israel's industrial espionage, which I should probably point out again, lest you make another assumption based on my ethnicity, is A BAD THING).

Oh, and you're an ass for assuming someone going by "Dreidel" is an Israel shill. Go lick a running chainsaw.
