I love this show! Go ahead and give the Emmy to Billy Bob Thornton now. Knowing the idiots that run the Emmys, he won't get it though.

I don't know, I have a feeling he's going to have some stiff competition for 'Best Performance in a Bathroom' from Charles Dance before this season of GoT is over...

Seriously, though, Billy Bob is putting on a master clinic for actors every week with that show. All the cast is great, the writing is fantastic, it's a perfect example of why the Cable Networks are so much superior to the old broadcasters. It's also a perfect mix of Cohen Brothers style dark humor and keeps the folksy feel of the original movie.

/Maps don't say 'Here There Be Dragons' anymore, but that don't mean they're not still there

I caught a good chunk of the 1st episode, but haven't watched it since. I liked it, but, for some reason, its one of those shows I like but don't go out of my way to watch.

Does everything have to have a farking "universe"? I'm sure this show exists in the universe where growing your bangs out makes you twenty years younger.

Yeah...great show...
Though, not sure why Nygaard doesn't just down a half bottle of whiskey, grab some tweezers, and pull that pellet out of his hand!?!?!
It's swollen so bad, there's bound to be infection...he's going to lose his whole hand AND get caught in the process.
Just man up, get it over with...and LEAVE TOWN!
No one ever leaves town when life-ending crap heads their way...I don't know why.

It seems that whenever he tries to remove the pellet he gets interrupted by somebody.

He could have done that up until last night's episode. His hand is so badly infected it would be impossible to remove it by himself now. He really should have picked up that unguent.

I cant even put into words how good Billy Bob can play an evil SOB. He just loved farking with Colin Hanks last night. "You're making a mistake!"

Hank's character - what?

Malvo: I said, you're making a mistake, those are the words you're going to be saying in 2 hrs.

2 hrs pass and Hank's character utters: You're making a mistake!" cuts himself short and looks at Malvo who's now got a big shat eating grin on his face.

Note: the above may not be 100% accurate as quoted, but the general gist of it is identical.

I love how Gus is allowed to live because of Malvo's system of morals, not a threat, no money in killing him, he can live.

so... for the person who hasnt watched the show, but loved the source material... is this show shaping up to be a crime was commited and the audiance knows everything from the criminals side to LEO's side and its more of a who didn't than a who dunnit?

Or is it turning Fargo into Cabat Cove Main.. the deadliest town in America?

Will have to now.

I thought he was really good in that season of Dexter.

It's an original story, set in Bemidji and Duluth, instead of Brainard. There's ties to the movie, some more tangible than others. Example: there's a moving company called 'Deifenbach & Sons'; Reily Deifenbach was the GMAC rep trying to get the serial numbers from Jerry Lundegaard in the movie.

from what I gather, this will be more of a mini series and this series is only 10 episodes long. I am fine with that.

Yes and any subsequent series will take place in the same universe with new characters, of course they could continue with Billy Bob's reign of terror through the midwest and I'd be OK with it.  His character is one of the best I've ever seen.

I'm starting to wonder how "supernatural" this show can get. Billy Bob somehow knows about the bag of money from the movie, and Oliver Platt's epiphany about God being real. That's why he's using Biblical imagery in his blackmail scheme (and an excuse for some freaking awesome set pieces, especially the grocery store). Is Lorne Malvo a real demon in human form? Where does that line actually cross, the line between demon and horrible human being? Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, does the same hold true for morality and sin? Can you really tell the difference between a demon and a serial killer?

Trocadero: Billy Bob somehow knows about the bag of money from the movie

I think the money from the movie  is totally unknown to Malvo (BBT), he's playing a hunch.  He knows that there's some question about how the Supermarket King got the money to start the business (from talking to the wife) and how when the original ransom note got him all flustered, that there had to be something to it, that he wants to avoid being made public.   In his "profession" he's got to have a decent ability to get a read on someone and in this case he got a read that he can turn to his advantage by playing both sides of the street.

LADY MACBETH Yet here's a spot.
Doctor Hark! she speaks: I will set down what comes from
her, to satisfy my remembrance the more strongly.
LADY MACBETH Out, damned spot! out, I say!--One: two: why,
then, 'tis time to do't.--Hell is murky!--Fie, my 40
lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard? What need we
fear who knows it, when none can call our power to
account?--Yet who would have thought the old man
to have had so much blood in him.
Doctor Do you mark that?
LADY MACBETH The thane of Fife had a wife: where is she now?--
What, will these hands ne'er be clean?--No more o'
that, my lord, no more o' that: you mar all with
this starting.

It's swollen so bad, there's bound to be infection...he's going to lose his whole hand AND get caught in the process.

He "manned up" at the end of episode 3.

And shot his load in episode 4.

He was very good, and Edward James Olmos was very good, but their plot arc was obvious and the episodes themselves frequently poorly written.  Which is why they didn't get the sort of notice that John Lithgow got.
