Actually, that's kind of cool. Yeah, he'll get pulled over all the time, but the cops don't have a superior right to not to be offended.

COPSSUCK

I have to re-register my tags in August. Damn straight I'm gonna get vanity plates, and brush up on my rights.

He better install a few cameras in his car, preferably ones that back up their data remotely.

I love the old joke about what a bummer it must be to be a prisoner making license plates in New Hampshire and having to stamp out "Live Free or Die" over and over again all day.

I can't imagine why someone would spend their precious free time going through the hassle just for the right to look like a jerk.

Oh wait...it's New Hampshire. Never mind.

The Alabama of the northeast.

Live free or die, indeed.

Those plates still made by prisoners?

So he legally changed his name, but the article continued to refer to him by his previous name? Weak.

2014-05-07 11:47:19 AM
New Hampshire had argued that state workers were right to deny the plate, because the phrase disparages an entire class of people - police officers.

I'll just leave this here:

soo.. the state is admitting that it believes cops are a specific class of people then?

And of course, no reasonable person would ever believe the hundreds of stories from when cops have lied.

I agree he has the right to say it.
I agree that, for the most part, cops lie.

But getting this plate and putting it on your car is pants-on-head retarded. It's just asking for trouble and accomplishes nothing.

2014-05-07 11:55:51 AM
But here in california "KUMLORD" is a-ok. Seriously, I was driving behind that car yesterday. Unfortunately, there was a cop directly behind me so no photos. We will see if I see it again.

It takes a special kind of stupid to go out of your way to antagonize cops and provoke interactions with them when you strongly believe they're going to lie about what was said and done during those interactions to your detriment.

THIS THIS THIS

I don't like street gangs either. But if I wander LA wearing a t-shirt that says "The crips can suck my balls" I pretty much deserve the beating I would get.

Antagonizing cops is really not very different from antagonizing any other street gang.

Driving on 395 by Pentagon City last week (Arlington County VA), I saw a North Carolina plate that read BENGHAZI.

What are the other reasons?

2014-05-07 12:02:55 PM
You have to wonder about people who pay for vanity plates, when they could cover their car with any message they want via low-cost bumper stickers. Even though states have to put up with people whining about censorship, they win in the long run with all the extra revenue generated by the sale of vanity plates.

Oh I can't wait to move to New Hampshire this September! Retirement paperwork is in, and soon I'll have a totes magotes "Live Free or Die" plate hanging off my old Jetta.

/friend of mine was a Philly Public Defender, she told me lots of stories about lying Philly cops...

I don't know how many people i pulled over and eventually arrested for whatever charge, suspended, drugs, booze, whatever, and they would have some kind of sticker in their car window "support your local police" or Sheriff, or..."just say NO to drugs" when they were carrying drugs. it would always make me chuckle. Perhaps they thought if i saw that, i would cut them a break. Not.

" the case of David Montenegro...."

oh, he doesn't need any more help getting pulled over - I used to live in Dover and this guy's hobby is trying to "expose the truth" about the local police force and their evil ways.  Sure, some cops around Dover and the Seacoast are dicks, but the majority are ok and this guy is pretty much a giant attention whore.

...because the people at the DMV are incapable of using their brains?

My solution to the problem is better, imo (of course)
Every month, break up all vanity plate requests for that month into 50 plate lists.  Send each list out to 100 random people who are eligible for jury duty (this could be restricted to people in your county/voting district or state-wide) asking them to check a yes/no box on whether or not the plate is objectionable.  Simple majority wins and the plate is granted/denied based on survey results.
Or, make it a web-based function and let everyone decide (using their drivers license number to authenticate they are licensed to drive by that state) and give them $0.01 discount per plate they vote on their next DL renewal up to a 100% discount.  Once a plate hits 100 votes, remove it from the survey.

I'm going to get a vanity plate that says TRYING

My license plate expresses a similar, though more generic, sentiment.

Cops do lie. Cops are proud of their ability to lie. They laugh about how citizens think cops have to tell the truth.

Are they upset that a trade secret is being revealed?

NH has the highest rate of Vanity Plate usage in the nation, IIRC.
It's probably because they're relatively cheap, $50 a year.
\yep I've got one.

To be fair, on my way to work I used to see a car with the usual complement of current Democratic candidate bumper stickers and "NOGOP" on his vanity plate. It cuts both ways.

/my mom used to work at the same firm as Richard Head...or at least an NH attorney named Richard Head
//his ex-wife would introduce herself as "Mrs. Dick Head"

Great argument by the lawyer: if "COPS R GRT" acceptable the so is " COPS LIE."
