...none of the sharks caught between 25 January and 30 April was a great white - the species held responsible for the attacks.

A total of 172 sharks were caught, the ABC reports. Of those, 50 tiger sharks longer than three metres were destroyed.

In a normal year, the ratio is millions of sharks killed per every human killed.
If I were them, I'd be seriously pissed.

The cull was introduced after a spate of fatal attacks along Australia's western coastline, but none of the sharks caught between 25 January and 30 April was a great white - the species held responsible for the attacks.

No, they were whatever species has the fins, gallbladder, liver, and penis the Chinese have decided is an aphrodisiac for tiny penis this week.

Well, prove killing them did not help, just as easy as proving it did help.

And pretty sure none of these is remotely endangered.

We must kill all wild animals in the wild. We can't have them acting like wild animals and ruining our recreation.

Damn it, guys! Sharks aren't people killing machines. They are seal killing machines. Don't swim with seals and sharks would get you. Most people don't even die in shark attacks.

Tiger sharks are very opportunistic. I'm ok with them keeping the bigger ones out of the chow line.

My understanding is there's an international sharking ban too.

When are they going to start killing off an even fiercer killer of man? Lightning! Don't let pussyfooting lightning conservationists tell you otherwise!

In WA alone, more people are killed falling out of bed than by shark attacks.  Many more are killed by falling down stairs, by dogs, or by horses.  Many, many, many more are killed by cars

/time to ban beds, dogs, horses, stairs, and cars

Shark Fin Soup, is considered to be responsible for the slaughter of up to 100 million sharks per year making shark finning an unsustainable and cruel practice.
Sharks are finned legally in Australia and while Shark Fin Soup is served in restaurants in every state, Australia also exports between 100 and 200 tonne of shark fins to Asia per year.

voodoomedic: "Stop killing all the sharks!" said no sane person ever.

My sanity is open for questioning, but my opinion as someone who has only lived on the coastal areas of islands is "stop killing all the sharks!"

The possibility of getting attacked by a shark is a risk you choose to assume when you voluntarily enter their habitat.  It's not like the shark broke into someone's house and had a nibble.

Don't punish sharks when you make a positive choice to make yourself available as food, and they take the bait.

If you don't want the risk of being turned into chum, stay out of the water.

My sanity maybe questionable, but we should definitely stop killing all the sharks.
