That's okay, I thought it was about the Zombie. Anything that starts with 151 is going to guarantee a quick night.

While technically not a cocktail, I was almost certain that the Pickleback was going to be the most dreadful thing I'd ever tried... and was very surprised at how reasonable it is. Not saying I'd ever willingly order it, but it's not a Cement Mixer or anything.

How about a two-drug cocktail . . . heroin and cocaine?

Give 'em the (last) ride of their lives.

I still don't understand how Chocolate Cake Shots were so popular with the lushes in college. They were disgusting.

They just figured out that we put down animals more humanely than humans...  Not the fastest moving justice system in the world, is it?

Well, Bush is still free, so....

Ok, I'll say it.

Why don't we just get rid of the death penalty? It's not a deterrent to crime. I think spending the rest of your life in the dank hellhole that is prison is a much worse punishment than death.

The 151 'drink' I was scared of was the Vapor Slammer.  A shot of 151 in a brandy snifter, lit on fire, put out by sealing the top of the glass with your palm, inhale the vapor and chug the rest.  I tried it once... once!

There are lots of ways to kill people quickly...but we as a society also want it to be "calm" and "quiet" and not upset anyone watching the execution.  A single drug OD would be fine as long as the guy getting it does convulse or drool or foam at the mouth or gasp for air.  Gotta have our deaths clean for PR.

How about we just ditch the death penalty?

2014-05-07 01:25:12 PM
You know, it's all in the preparation of the condemned. Just like with other medical procedures such as surgery.

Instead of shaving the condemned, maybe a few hours of waterboarding would make the prisoner more amenable to execution.

Then they'll start banning the violent cocktails. You'll see.

I'll miss the Harvey Wallbanger.

2) Give one to me.

Hershey's Syrup and vodka, mostly. Google for it.

You can make your own, I suspect.

After reading this thread, we should make the condemned butt chug a fifth of 151.

I'd want to die by firing squad, seems like the better option. Gas, chemicals, and electricity seem barbaric.  Hanging, you need someone who knows how to do it well or else you die painfully.

First and foremost, it's a pretty brutal solution for a civilized society. Second, I just don't trust our judicial system enough to condemn a person to death as punishment.

Is it really a botched execution if the guy still died as a result?

I will fully agree with you there. Our judicial system has sent too many innocent people to their deaths.

And based on that alone, I would support removing the death penalty.

Prison isn't like that anymore.  You get to work and earn money to buy things in canteen(and there's sooo much stuff you can buy).  You get all the cable channels, the nfl network, no skinamax, but still.  Hell, all I have are the prime time channels.  If you want, you can take classes.  There's your rec time.  It's almost like, if you choose to never have to be responsible again, commit a horrible crime and you're set for life.

//and you don't even want to know what the cost is per year an offender costs the state.  It's depressing.

Wouldn't the innocent people be with God sooner? This is actually in their best interest.

The blame for that ghastly execution in Oklahoma belongs at the feet of the anti-death-penalty activists that interfered with the state's access to the chemicals that were known to work effectively. They shamed, boycotted and even threatened physical harm to both the suppliers and the other customers of those suppliers.  The strategy worked so Oklahoma was forced to improvise and that went very, very badly.

So-- and I don't mean this as the cliche it usually is-- why don't you get yourself sent to one? You heavily imply, if not actually state, that it's a better life than what you've got. Realistically, your quality of life is unlikely to change much. So if prison is so much better, why aren't you signing up?

Could it be that it's not actually better than being free? That while it ain't the old Attica, prison is still a punishment?

I really don't think, looking over your post again, that it's merely because you choose to "be responsible." As a sole motivator and in the face of all other reasons to the contrary, people by and large are not that noble and self-disinterested.

Whatever your opinion is on the DP, it's on the way out... They got rid of the chair and gas chamber because it upset too many people, and now LE is doing the same thing. It's just a matter of time before it's abolished... Which is probably a good thing... There is not much the government (Fed and state levels) is very competent at (war on drugs, corrupt politicians, unneeded wars, corporate takeover), so it's probably not a good thing to have it used to execute people.

The justice system is not a perfect system. It has LAWYERS for crying out loud - when did the TRUTH have anything to do with justice? It's all about presentation and charisma... Executing innocents is bound to happen.

I say we bring back the gladiators and put em on primetime, right after the news...

Ooh, bad choice.

Shots to the heart, aside from giving love a bad name, are not guaranteed to be fatal, much less instantly fatal. And if any shots go elsewhere like the lungs or stomach, you're in for a slow and *very* painful death.

There are records of people dying by firing squads that were dicks about it and shot them in the stomach, which occasionally caught fire briefly. Dying of stomach wounds are particularly agonizing.

Anyhow, no, I don't expect a modern firing squad would aim for anywhere but the heart. Depending on the size of the squad, and the caliber of bullets used, I'll even say that I seriously doubt it wouldn't be instantly fatal. But I wouldn't wanna risk it.

I agree. The contraptions and weird rituals always seemed ghoulish to me. If someone is so rotten they need to be removed from the earth, and there are some that qualify, just drag them out behind the shed and put one in their brain.

Turning the whole thing into a spectacle (even if very few people actually see the execution) has always made me uncomfortable.

Because I like freedom and obey the law.  If you've met some offenders in your life, some have major mental illness, some aren't really that bright to begin with and giving up all their personal responsibilities is just fine with them.  That's all I meant by it.  Prison is all about a controlled environment.  If lunch is 20 min late that's a huge deal to them.  If you disturb the routine of their day, it's like their world is crumbling.  Kind of like losing your job and not being able to pay your bills kind of anxiety.

This.  These shots have fallen out of favor where I live, but five or six years ago, everybody wanted some kind of drink that ended in -cake, -pie, or -cookie.  They were universally disgusting, not to mention rarely tasting anything like their namesake.
