so in real football, that's like what? a return to the 50 yard line?

Wow, I thought you were joking. I had no idea their field is literally 50 yards.

Also, that's not insanely good running, it's insanely poor tackling. Big difference.

Good to see that they also have that annoying habit of slowing down before they reach the end zone before sauntering in.

There is a reason this is the only highlight of an Arena Football game I've seen in over 10 years.. The sport is boring and derpy as shiat.

If the player takes a knee in the endzone the ball is placed on the two yard line so all kicks are going to be returned.

Actually it is a 5 yard line, but, yeah, not the 20, so, they all come out.

As opposed to "around" 50 yards?

/actually that isn't a poor thought, as it is known that teams in the past have done things like 33 inch "yard lines" to get fields to fit into an arena floor.

back when my dad could get around we used to go to arena football sometimes, it was a decent time for the 15 bucks for a ticket, these kinds of leagues are under appreciated as something to do, the place was always almost empty.

Cerebral Knievel: yeah... but it's arena football..

Arena football is still fun to watch. It's closer to playground football with the smaller field, no real out of bounds, and some of the trick stuff that's allowed. It doesn't ALL have to be NFL do-or-die.

Having met and drank beers with some of the guys, I can tell you that while the field may be smaller, the players aren't.
CSB: The restaurant I worked at in Phx in the late 90s was a block from America West Arena, so we had fans players, front office people and owners in our restaurant off and on from all of the teams that played there, the Suns, Coyotes, Mercury and Rattlers. My second day there, they told me to keep an eye out for any Rattlers players that came in because the team hosted a live Q&A on one of the radio stations the day of any home game. I just had to show them where the banquet rooms were. I wasn't sure how I would know who it was, so I asked if they'd be wearing team shirts or something. My boss just smiled and said "Oh, you'll know.". About an hour later, the Hulk's cousin and his younger brother walked in. Huge dudes, 6'2" at least, and pushing 300 lbs, but almost no fat anywhere. All I could do is look at them and point.

Another funny one: Sherdrick Bonner, who was QB at the time, and apparently up until 2006 had a fling with one of our managers, a cute free-spirited little firecracker of a chick. Anyway, she was looking for something more like a one night stand and maybe a fark-buddy, while he apparently was quite taken with her and wanted more serious dating. As a result, there were at least two occasions that I was sitting at the bar and he would be sitting there mooning over her and why I thought that she wouldn't return his calls, and then later she'd be telling me that he wouldn't quit trying to make it serious and that she didn't want anything serious. It was total role-reversal. The guy was nice as hell though. I did feel bad for him a little.

I went to a couple of Arena football games when there was a team a few blocks down the street. It wasn't a bad way to waste an evening especially when tickets could be had for next to nothing. The biggest problem was that it suffered from too much time between plays. That's fine for the NFL where the quality of the actual play is high but for Arena, a league that likes to promote itself as being fast paced and full of action, it was a bit of a let down. If they adopted a hurry up no huddle type offense, it'd be more interesting. But this was at least ten years ago so maybe they've made rule changes since then to speed things up.

I was all over ArenaFan back in the af2 days, had season tickets to the Tennessee Valley Viper's games.  Arena football is definitely something that is better in person than on TV, though. Glad to see people have already pointed out the no touchback rule in Arena Football.

As a season ticket holder, I saw it in person - and this was about the only highlight of the game.

However, for the money it is good fun. $10 a game gets me a quirky brand of football, a live band (at least 3 of the 4 games so far), go go dancers, flames, lasers, and once in a while some guy breaking a 50-yard touchdown run.

Something more rare, I bought a new glove after 23 years.  It's actually the first glove I bought myself, the first one was given to me when I was 14 after I had joined my dad's softball team.  I don't think I'll throw the old one away, since it is still a decent glove, but after all these years, and the luck of getting it back after it was stolen in prison and the warden had to get it back for me, it has some sentimental value.  I've played pitcher, catcher, outfield, shortstop with that glove.

/My dad had a softball team that mostly played prison inmates.  One game, my glove got taken.

They aren't for me either, but they're every bit as important as a play in the AFL.
