Nice fear mongering, assholes.

We'll just casually draw an association between pot and meth labs...

It should be criminal to lie to the public like that.

The only time that fires happen is because of faulty wiring. Usually by trying to wire into your neighbor's electricity to hide your consumption. That would pretty much be eliminated by legalization and letting people grow without having to worry.

The explosion part is just pure stupidity

So much resume-cooler to refer to a farm as a lab, like you "worked in a tomato lab, a weapons grade tomato lab."

They can be dangerous.

The thing is someone that most people who decide to start a mom and pop grow op are usually not chemists, botanists, or electrical engineers.

They are people who got all of their info by word of mouth are the internet.

So they are usually not the best people to have mixing up chemicals, building electrical systems, etc...

Happy to see Florida has solved all their unsolved cases. Captured all their fugitives. Found all missing persons. Cured cancer. To move on to ruining a family's life. I am also sure it didn't cost an obscene amount of money to get that "tip" and to arrest the family.

I have no problem with pot, but I would be pretty pissed if my neighbor had a large grow op and was distributing his wares from his house.

Why?  because it would attract all types of unsavory characters into the hood.   "Lets go steal all that dudes weed, fark it when we shoot a couple of neighbors".

I have a carriage house that was broken into by a couple of geniuses who thought I was growing weed.

The only way I could possible conceive of it being comparable to a method lab is if they were using propane or methane to extract amber. Otherwise, ridiculous fearmongering by redneck reporter.

That's the same thing contractors say about homeowners.  And they're not wrong -- that's why we have codes and (to a lesser degree) licensing. But it's silly to pretend that the someone idiot installing a grow light poses any more risk some idiot installing a new dryer.

Acting on a tip, Miami-Dade police say narcotics detectives executed a search warrant at the single-family home at 21964 SW 125th Avenue shortly before midnight on Monday.

Wait wait wait...I actually watched the video in the article, and it was a very slick setup. So someone called anonymously to say "I think such-and-such is growing pot" and that's all it took for a full raid?

I have a huge work bench and this year Floridas winter lasted a little longer, so seedlings I had started for my garden. Tomato, watermelon, cucumber, okra, and about five different types of hot peppers.  Around 120 in total, I brought inside and placed a lamp over them.  These guys saw it and thought it must be some kind of grow up, and broke in.

When they got in they could read the labels on my trays, and see it was not pot.

So, for their troubles they took an air compressor, a floor jack, and a broken microwave.

The cops caught them and told them I was a clandestine farmer of the herb.  One was wanted for assault and the other was on parole for armed robbery.

I am all for weed, but any drug business attracts unsavory characters.

Which is why we have zoning rules -- you'd presumably have the same complaint about someone growing tomatoes and distributing them from his house.

It's just that it's difficult to enforce zoning rules against black market operations.

The cops told the burglars you grew weed? Or the burglars tried to get you in trouble because they just got nicked?

I live 2 doors down from a dispensary, and I've only been shot at just a few times... You get used to it.

The criminals walking around the 'hood' that go into the dispensary - soccer moms, professionals, athletes, young couples, 'stoners', homeless people, only try to break in when the liquor store down the street is closed.

It ain't so bad...
