Video was crazy.

Yes dumb stunt but I wonder why they are throwing in the felony charge...and will that stick?

Make it legal to shoot at 'em, and they'll stop doing this kind of shiat.

Because it's NYC.  You're not allowed to do things that might hurt you, unless they are sexual.  Then it's OK, so long as you're not paying for it.

For the "City That Never Sleeps" there sure is no one around in those videos.

"Interested in helping?"

Why? To defend a self-important asshat like you? Not particularly.

I don't know what the BFD is. Harmless prank, done with no one around. Nobody but themselves in danger.

Their Big Sin was to make all The Security Apparatus (tm) look like jackasses. If the BASE jumpers were able to do this, then Johnny Jihadi could have have climbed up there with a few pounds of C4 and knocked down the spire for a general Fark You America moment.

We don't seem to be getting much value for all the money we're showering over Homeland Security....

Exactly. Charges are being leveled because "security" was embarressed. I can see charging them being with something, though---I mean, you've pretty much got to in order to deter others---so I can see a fine or community service or a couple weekends in jail. But this is going a bit overboard. It's kind of a tough one. Take no action and you're kind of setting a precedent of "it is okay" or, at least, giving that impression.

Nothing happened.. in this instance.  What if a plane was going by and they rammed into it?  What if a wind draft kicked up and they ended up with their parachute caught on the edge of a building and the city had to pay rescue workers to get them down safely?  There's a reason why base jumping isn't legal, it's fricken dangerous, especially in a city.

How can they be charged with burglary when they didn't actually steal anything?

I'm guessing that throwing in the plea for assistance with the legal fees was his lawyers idea.

I almost agree but if something went wrong with the jump they could have hurt someone else on the ground.  Or started some "OMG TURRISTS ARE HERE" panic.  Either is pretty unlikely.

They cops pretty much have to charge and prosecute the shiat out of these guys (or was it just one?) because if they don't sooner or later more people will try it, someone will get hurt, then they'll sue the owning company.

Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: How can they be charged with burglary when they didn't actually steal anything?

Because you don't know what burglary means.  Burglary is also known as breaking and entering.

Theft is a different crime.

Ah, but what if a plane was going by and they crashed through the cockpit, killed the terrorist hijackers (because that is the only conceivable scenario in which they could be anywhere near a plane) and diverted the plane away from the tower and saved the day?

Not all "what if"s scenarios have to be bad, you know. Think positively for a change.

Let these people go, and open up all buildings to base jumpers, and damn the expense of cleaning up their bodies. It's just a bit of fun, stop trying to control everyone with "what if bad stuff happens" crap. It probably wont, and even if it does it'll be a small percentage, it's an acceptable risk, so just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Once he jumped off the building, he didn't have a legal leg to stand on.
