You can give a fish a frog and he will eat for a day, but if you teach a man to fish, he can teach a fish to frog, but only if its catch-and-release, and then the fish will die.  Or something.

I had to go hunting around to find out where "Australia" was, since that doesn't narrow things down much. Fittingly turns out it was the freaky part of Qld.

Nope, you don't have anything that would prevent you from posting an image. Sometimes people try to post an image they find in a GIS, but the target site it's from is dodgy. If not, maybe it's some sort of bug.

Could somebody please explain the "onion belt" and "fedora" references I see here? I know what tying onions to your belt is but not why anybody would do it, and I don't understand why people think wearing a fedora is for weirdos.

I'm clearly a failure as a scenetard.

I can get kicked out of here for spilling the beans, so don't tell anyone I let you in on it. "Onion belt" refers to Grandpa Simpson rambling on and on with a go-nowhere story. Check out this link (the "old man" referenced is, in fact, Grandpa Simpson):      http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=onion%20belt  In general, it's used to mark someone as an "old person" who'd wear things like that "back in the day"...whether true or not...because it was "the style".  Now I gotta run before "they" tar-and-feather me. Again.

Not sure about teh "fedora", though.

I'm not seeing any fedora references in the thread before yours, so I'm guessing you're posting about an "in general" trend. Anyway, I'll give this a whirl.

I believe it is because most people can't tell the damn difference between a fedora and a trilby. Weirdo douchebag hipsters started making trilbys a trend a number of years back, but everybody calls them fedoras. So people who don't know dick about hats say, "people who wear fedoras are weirdos."

Ring the bell, school's in session.

Fedoras are always classy and cool.

Trilbys are generally for hipster douchebags.

Hopefully that clears that up.

/Proud fedora wearer.
//Occasionally wear a trilby... but I know how to wear one.

2014-05-06 07:16:20 PM
Oh, and the difference? Fedoras are almost always a solid color, and made of wool or felt, with a wide (1 1/2" or so) brim. Trilbys are generally made of canvas, denim or weave, usually patterned and have a narrow brim (1/2" or so).

Fedoras had their moment in time starting in the early 1900's up to the early 1970s.  Every properly dressed gentleman had to have one.  But now they are somewhat analogous to the powdered wigs that were the bomb for a couple of hundred years but died out at the start of the 19th century.  It was the style at the time, but not so much now.

But time and fashion march on and today you will look just as ridiculously out of place and forcibly anachronistic wearing a fedora as you would sporting a powdered wig.
