Whoever buys the peak will be entitled to use the title Lord of the Manor of Threlkeld.*

I wish I had the $3M - I'd buy it in a heartbeat.  It looks like the perfect place to build a nice mountain retreat, and the title is kind of nice, too.  Being The Right Honourable Benevolent, Lady of the Manor of Threlkeld wouldn't be so bad.  I could get used to it.

*Acceptance among the English Aristocracy not included

I dunno, don't see why anyone thinks inheritance should simply be handed over to the government. Crappy story. In the family for 400 years, now has to break it up because of taxes.... Blah.

So, because the Kingdom wants to take xx%, equating to £9M, of this guy's father's money as a death tax, which was already paid lots of taxes on when it was earned the first time, the son has to sell iconic land that's been in the family's possession since Galileo was observing Jovian satellites for the first time and longer that the founding of the colony at Jamestown...

... not saying "estate taxes" should be entirely abolished, but the UK's version of them seems like a load of horseshiat based on this article.

If I made even Instagram money, you bet your butt I'd be lord something and own a couple of castles. It's just walking-around money until you have servants and a title.

The government has spent four hundred years maintaining  the legal framework which stopped anyone else taking over the mountain.

Not that it matters or is funny, but while you can buy the mountain, you aren't allowed to do anything with it. As described by a guy who farms some sheep there, "A lot of people don't understand the Lake District... It's a National Park but a privately owned and farmed one... It's not publicly owned ... Funniest interview ever with Earl of Lonsdale on Jeremy Vine show...
New owner can do what old owner did

Absolutely nothing

Total non story"

Alternately, how many generations should we allow a family to live on the achievements of their forefathers? Some guy made a ton of money and accumulated power 400 years ago and now, 20 generations later, the money is just beginning to run dry. How is that fair?  I understand wanting to leave what you built for your children, grand children or even great grandchildren, but your grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand- grand-gra nd-grand-grand-grand- grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-children?

You know, it used to be that American Conservatives were against the idea of an Aristocracy.

I am. Estate taxes are evil.

Oh, and subby, it's $600.00. Don't sell Von Krunk so cheaply.

I'm actually really surprised how cheap that is.    1.75 million for 2700 acres is an insane steal.   You're paying barely 650 pounds per acre.   That is incredibly cheap.

"And they rose up and said to God, 'We are the one true Race, and you shall have no other people before us.'"

Too bad the relaunch a couple years ago didn't take off. Then again, WEG has really sucked donkey nuts after the bankruptcy and sale to the french company.

Yeah but I get to be 'The One True TheDavidTM' for FREE. It has no land, income, benefits or privileges, but then it's FREE.

Why pay for a dorky title nobody cares about?
