Maybe this is why Republicans keep wanting to cut PBS's budget.

To be fair is to admit that Benghazi probably is some sort of some form of scandal, because this administration really isn't much better or less corrupt than any other. It's more that the republicans are terrible at figuring anything out. THAT's the bigger scandal.

In FOX world, if it hurts Obama it's true. Period.

FTA: Lara Logan, the network's chief foreign correspondent, and Max McClellan, her producer, went on leave following the network's internal review....

When does she start her gig over at Fox News?  She's already got the blonde hair for it.

republicans have successfully whined enough about this to move the overton window on this issue to the point where just to be fair and balanced you have to say there is some scandal. I don't like their politics but I admire their ability to control a narrative.

I saw on my Twitter feed yesterday that LexisNexis removed the report from their databases: https://twitter.com/TPM/status/463372707649040385

I'm surprised that CBS is really holding on to the original point of view at this point.

Considering that NBC News' president and Obama's national security advisor are brothers, I'm surprised it hasn't been completely squashed.

CBS is bravely refusing to bow to pressure from the administration to bury a report on the sole basis that the report is not actually supported by observable reality.

You are correct, as the president of NBC News must logically hold substantial influence over ABC, CBS, CNN and other news networks.

They have blindly pursued this scandal as "presidential action/inaction directly responsible for these deaths" that they now have to bring up shiat they were likely party to(and would have excused/endorsed under Bush), that was scandalous, to have a valid reason to call it a scandal.

They've farked their narrative, and now if something does come of it, no one is really going to care.

Makes for a good use of "Well I guess I'm not voting for '0bummer' in 2016!"

Pfff.  SC's not going to elect someone more moderate even if this blows up in his face (and it won't, at least in a way that matters). Graham's only danger is from further right.

Yes, because the Republicans "winning" in 2000 certainly made them stop talking about Clinton. Good plan. You're really thought this through.

Mercutio74: If you can't even express what the scandal is

You want to know what the scandal is?

The scandal is that despite a series of attacks on US Embassies abroad and the deaths of 60 American personnel resulting from these attacks under the Bush administration, that Congress has refused to do jack shiat about increasing the funding to protect these personnel, even while chastising Obama administration officials about this single attack.

That's the farking scandal.  Nice to see that, once farking again, the Democrats lack even a semblance of a spine or a single ball with which to summon the courage to bring this up.  Assholes.

What would the corruption angle here be? I think you're being too fair.

The only thing they farked up was a press release that impacted nothing, and a fark up isn't a scandal.

And he has two challengers from the deep right right now.  It would be hilarious if he was primaried out of the senate after banging the scandal drums for two years.

IIRC, if Republicans are in power, if you disagree with them you're an America-hating, goose stepping traitor. At least with them in the minority, we have some recourse for their "my way or the highway" shenanigans.

The only Benghazi scandal, is how those that tried to make it into a scandal, through outright deceit, still have their jobs.

Both sides are bad. So vote Republican because for some reason they have more scandals. Probably because transparency or something.

Well, also the Republicans and their Fox cheerleaders spent the better part of a decade ignoring, denying, and downplaying the massive failure of intelligence and outright lies that resulted in, what, 5,000 U.S. troops killed in Iraq? They are naturally having trouble raising outrage over the current administration trying to put political spin on the the deaths of 4 Americans by making relatively minor wording changes to a press release or two. You can numb a population into not caring about an entire illegal war, but don't expect them to get all agitated about this.

Cletus C.: CBS apologized for the report last November. Did they not apologize hard enough? Is that what this is about?

They glossed over or outright lied about a lot of what went down, likely to ensure that Logan could return at some point.

FTFA:  Brock, a right wing Clinton antagonist in the 1990s, turned left and went on to found Media Matters and super PAC American Bridge. He recently started Correct the Record, a new initiative to defend Hillary Clinton, who was secretary of State at the time of the Benghazi attack.

I think it's far more likely that Brock stayed where he is and everything else shifted to the right.  Back in the day, Hilary was a champion of sensible health care and now she seems to be a champion of Wall St.  He would probably be considered right wing almost anywhere in the world but the US, where there's a false left-right dichotomy.

2014-05-06 10:16:48 AM
Not for nothing, but the week after they aired this obviously phony report (and were called out for it during the week), 60 Minutes doubled down in their "letters" segment the next week. I feel like they should be taken to task for that, too.

Honest question: Has anyone been fired over it? Several people got fired over Rathergate, and Rather himself stepped down.

Oh, so some blood is what we what. Logan hasn't returned so I guess there hasn't been a decision on firing her yet. But her head immediately on a spike is being demanded here, i guess.

It's that they seemed to use their internal investigation to distance themselves from Logan and that story, when in fact, there was at the very least institutional incompetence or at worst institutional co-operation that allowed the story to air in the form it took.  The call to reopen the investigation is a call to see how CBS also farked this up and make them take more responsibility for their reporting.

This is a perfect example of the GOP achieving its goals. For months they've stomped all over four dead bodies and screamed about a scandal. They've done this enough that reasonable people, especially those who don't know much about the whole affair, are left thinking, "well there must be some sort of scandal. After all we're still talking about it." This is exactly the goal of the right and it is despicable they can get away with it.
