Hopefully America's bravest won't try to jump out of their planes to fire an RPG into a bogey.

Did Da Vinci create a 3-D 'Mona Lisa'?
Short answer: no.
Long answer: noooooooo.

From the article:
Others suggest the evidence isn't there for an intentional creation of a stereoscopic view for paintings.
For instance, the disparities between the two paintings for other areas of the body, not the hands, don't fit with them creating a stereoscopic pair, according to Arguin. "Most in contradiction with this notion is the fact that these disparities are largely oriented vertically, and not horizontally as would be required to replicate the left and right eye views," Arguin said.

Carbon and Hesslinger say they agree with Arguin's comments about the consistency of disparities in certain regions of the "Mona Lisa" paintings and the horizontal or vertical nature of some of the disparities between the two paintings. "Ideally we need horizontal disparities to create a proper 3-D impression, which we mainly revealed for the hands region," Carbon told LiveScience. "This is also the reason for having focused on the hands region when reconstructing the 3-D image and visualizing the 3-D effect." Carbon added: "As conclusion we would like to qualify the stereoscopic properties of this region 'remarkable' and 'intriguing,' particularly when we take into account that the base pictures stem from the very early years of the 16th century."

Or, in short form:
Arguin: "What do you mean, 3D? All of the disparities are vertical, not horizontal. Are your eyes stacked on top of each other?"
Carbon: "That's why we only looked at the one tiny portion of the painting that included some horizontal disparities. But at least we can agree that this is 'remarkable' and 'intriguing', right? I mean, this was the 16th century!"
Arguin: "No. You're an idiot."

We are going to lose half our troops when they try to shoot off-screen to reload...

That will work great until they get a request to play Farmville right in the middle of a battle and can't do anything until they respond.

Or how about when they dump all of their fully-loaded mags after firing only a couple of shots each...

And we can't forget the ones who will be lost attempting roadkills with A-10s...

Of course, the biggest tragedies will be those who are shot and killed during near-point-blank gunfights because their bullets left the barrels of their guns and immediately made hard turns away from their target because the target shot first.

Now if they'll only release crystal cove as an actual product, rather than calling them all "developer units" and keeping it selective...
The world has been waiting for cheap VR for years. We're on the verge of seeing HD goggles for mass release, and more importantly under $1k

CV1 will be released next year, DK2 is shipping in a couple months.  These things are confirmed, as are a great deal of the specs.

I stand pleasantly corrected, as long as they'll stick to the release schedule.  Hopefully facebook's buyout got them the cash they need to make it happen and to make it widespread...

I've been following it pretty close.  It sounds like they'll make the DK2 delivery date without issue and the CV1 price point of 350 dollars actually has me holding off on buying a bigger monitor, since for the same cash I can just buy the CV1.

As is my current rig isn't powerful enough to run the CV1 given the specs so far.  So I'm happy I have a year to collect all the components to build up a new rig.

Between the CV1 and what people have started cranking out in the terms of DK1 demos for the spanky-new Unreal 4 engine that now supports Oculus and Morpheus native, actual VR is going to be amazing.

Sorry for the delay in replaying, but I have to admit that $350 would be an amazing price point for their first widespread offering. Also, As someone looking into a GTX 770, that video inspires a lot of hope for the future. Utterly beautiful realtime rendering (not to mention it'd be nice to be able to run 3 monitors)

The video card will be the last thing I buy before the CV1 is released.  I'm going to set aside a grand for for the video card and hopefully I can pick something up that will last a couple years.

For something even cooler, check this out...
