So there are no men left born in the 19th century.  Apparently the oldest woman is 116, so there is at least one of them.

Has someone verified that 116 year old Japanese woman? I remember that after the Fukushima earthquake inspectors found that lots of 80+ year old pensioners had been dead for years, including a bunch of creepy mummy cases. "He just locked himself away, we never checked on him" type stuff.

But they remembered to keep cashing those pension checks.

At least we can be fairly confident of this man's age, unlike some claims reported here - the Polish gov't of this period, particularly under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, was meticulous about maintaining parish records of birth and death.

Wow. I'm friends with the couple in the video who are his close friends and recall meeting this guy over 10 years ago -- I guess around the time he was just turning 100. Good for him. I hope he lives on as long as his quality of life is good.

Waiting in the wings in San Francisco is Bill Delmonte, one of 2 known survivors of the 1906 earthquake and fire. He had his 108th birthday in January. A lady at age 112 is the other known survivor.

Misao Okawa is verified. The Japanese kept great records and because she's the oldest, she's checked on regularly. The years have not been kind to her though.

She's still alive at 116. I'd say they've been pretty damned good to her. By the time I'm 116, I'll probably have been dead for over 50 years.

I'll buy a beer for the next journalist who can write a story about a exceptionally old person WITHOUT random references to historical events or conditions at/near the time the person's birth, unless one of those events or conditions had a direct bearing on the subject's life.

I'd rather not reach 86 with the infirmities most 86-year-olds get. My grandmother is 87, and has to have full-time nursing care. She's in a nice enough place, but she hates it because she says it's "full of old people".

When you are that old, the very air you breathe is a poisonous fume

this is why i laugh when people give all their best years to a company so they can afford to sit inside and do nothing during old age; not just laughable, its tragic. As in stupid; you give your all, you get nothing back but the money to enjoy a world you can't touch!

I'm not quite 50 and I hurt in places that really shouldn't; but then, at 50 I shouldn't be hanging mirrors while wearing socks and standing on the dresser.

Or so I was told after the fact.

He is the oldest MAN. The oldest woman is apparantly 116 if other farkers upstream in comments are correct.

Back in the 90s the oldest still living woman was like 123.
