(Deadline)   So just how bad did Joel McHale bomb as MC of the White House Correspondents Dinner? He's being referred to now as "the other comic" in light of how well Obama killed the room. Ouch   (deadline.com) divider line 216

mrshowrules: FlashHarry: obama's "orange is the new black" joke absolutely killed!

That and the bit about any statement starting with "Let me tell you what I know about negro" was pricesless

The Bundy stuff from both Obama and McHale was hilarious. Nice of that racist, freeloading cattle farker to supply so much material.

Diogenes: monoski: ManateeGag: Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: Chris Christie

you do have to hand it to him, he took it in good fun.  unlike Trump, that humorless prick.

Trump really does not comprehend what a joke most people think he is...

Or maybe he does.  His chief value is his name and branding.  Can't "afford" to be mocked.

But Occam's Razor says you're probably right - humorless, egotistical fakhead with thin skin.

He is a humorless egotistical farkhead with thin skin, which is WHY his chief value is name and branding rather than anything substantive.

2014-05-05 10:31:15 AM
I haven't seen much of it, but I am guessing that "orange really is the new black" is probably the best of the night. he nailed that one.

2014-05-05 10:31:25 AM
McHale killed it for a good 15 minutes, started apologizing a bit too much toward the end and had some weaker jokes on the backend (except the DeNiro one, that was awesome) but was otherwise pretty damn good. If you watch the Soup you'd know that's kind of his schtick, he hits hard and then sometime pulls back a bit.

I don't know what all the butthurt is about. I guess if you're 60 it's not funny to you.

I wonder what the overlap on The Soup, Community, and CSpan viewers is. Probably just me and my wife.

Does this occur during a long S&M session?

So I didn't watch the dinner because I usually don't (lying to the country about weapons in a foreign country we invaded that cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars, and then joking about it in a room full of people that could rule the country properly, kinda turns you off to the whole process), but I have seen bits of Colbert's hosting gig which was great. It sounds like I should check out some of this year's action. McHale has a humor style that appeals to me, and Obama is very funny in other situations like this (see also: Between Two Ferns).

I swear I've heard the "orange is the new black" joke before.  I googled it and it appeared in stories back in 2010 about Boehner.

I do enjoy McHale's standup as a rule but he does always have too many fat jokes that basically amount to "fat people should not be fat."

I agree with your first part whole heartedly.  I also don't think the idiots in Washington should joke about the erosion of privacy rights, the boondoggle of the Obamacare rollout, etc.  They seem so much better about joking about their jobs than actually doing them.

I like the fact that McHale will go after the "celebrities" on his own network and point out that they are fairly worthless and don't bring anything to the table.

Quite frustrating in this day and age to have a Congress that does very little and is not punished for it. Part of that is a voter issue, but that's another story. Joke about that one racist, or Trump's hair, or how orange Boehner is... those are acceptable subjects. I'm not necessarily in the same boat as you with the ACA rollout opinion but I get where you're going.

2014-05-05 10:45:31 AM
When McHale started out by saying Obama's best joke was the one about closing Gitmo you know the shiat was gonna fly. Obama's joke about Boehner wasn't as original or funny as McHale's.

"Joe Biden is elbow deep in jalapeño poppers and talking to a construction cone he thinks is John Boehner."

I thought it was fine. There was plenty of laughter in the room, so they seemed to think so too. Joel did seem a bit nervous though.

This is hardly different than any other day and age since the birth of civilization. Once in a while things get so bad that the people revolt and burn things and murder people. They know we haven't gotten there yet. Right now we're still in the midst of 'write apologetic action screenplays about it'. shiat like those White House gets attacked movies, or V for Vendetta, or the popularity of zombie shows (which is a well-trodden metaphor for fighting against brain-dead masses of people).

You know the French Revolution, where they started cutting heads off? It lasted well over a decade, and was followed over the next 80 years by four more revolutions.

The "Kardashian slam" was what got them famous in the first place.

Is that a wrestling move in where Kim whacks you down with her hiney?  Kind of like a killer twerk?

bdub77: Does anyone remember Colbert's speech? It was not 'funny' - it was pure awesome, and that is seriously a crowd of humorless twits.

That was when Colbert beat up the Bush administration, right?  The word "awesome" is starting to mean "left-wing" on FARK these days.

Yeah, Colbert is awesome.  Maybe even a little to the left of the Daily Show's awesomeness.

2014-05-05 11:04:02 AM
I was just going to say, nobody is going to top Colbert in 2006.  His bit transended haha funny and went straight for scathing. It was truly brilliant and I'm not even a huge fan of the Colbert Report.  (Although I loved him in Strangers With Candy).

Are there significant numbers of Conservatives that think Bush did a good job?  If not, Colbert was mainstreaming it.

Okay, two questions: has the conservatroll Cletus gone into permanent hibernation (which would be perfectly fine, because I can tell you'd have some good conversation here without trying to poke and prod people), and are you watching streams on Twitch with the same username? Because the Cletus that is acting like a normal human in these threads is a welcome sight, another person that can just have conversation and debate without trying to droll to the lowest common denominator.

Thanks Ron, good to know your hatred of the president is so blinding. I'm sure there's a rational reason why you don't like him too... I bet it has nothing to do with your wonderful grammar.

Are you serious? So any live comedian who is not funny is "playing to the internet"? I guess your theory goes to comedy clubs as well.

/No such thing as a unfunny comedian. They are "playing to the internet".
