How'd they come up with him? Craig Kilbourne wasn't answering his phone?

And, are these the same people who prefer CBS's "LOOKIT THEM WEIRDOES IN GLASSES!! OOOOH! THEY'RE TELLING ME TO LAUGH NOW, SO IT WAS FUNNY! HYUK, HYUK, HYUK!" to "Community?" Fair enough, then.

It was pretty rough but I thought it was very funny.  Probably a bit too much for that crowd.  But they'll get over it.

Obama had some good zingers but honestly I think this was one of tamer and less funny performances at this thing.

Like when Colbert hosted, McHale seemed to be playing to the folks outside the room. The WHPC crowd seems pretty thin skinned... with the exception of Chris Christie, of course.

Joel needed a Mankini cameo, however.

I'm waiting for Kanye to twat something about the Kardashian slam.

The "Kardashian slam" was what got them famous in the first place.

Is that a wrestling move in where Kim whacks you down with her hiney?  Kind of like a killer twerk?

some of his jokes were really good and I laughed hard at them, but a lot of them fell flat.

colbert's was one of the funniest, most barbed correspondents dinner gigs ever delivered. and the wingnuts thought he "bombed" because nobody was laughing in the room. colbert was smart enough to realize that his audience was the internet, not the stuffed-suit hypocrites in front of him.

The NSA joke was about as funny as Bush looking for the WMDs.

They really missed the opportunity for a "community" organizer joke

Did they fall flat because they sucked, or because people in the room have no sense of humor?

Does anyone remember Colbert's speech? It was not 'funny' - it was pure awesome, and that is seriously a crowd of humorless twits. But should anyone be surprised? These dickholes run the country.

Seriously though, Steven Colbert should forever be remembered for that speech. It was the modern day equivalent of Dan Rather confronting Nixon.

you do have to hand it to him, he took it in good fun.  unlike Trump, that humorless prick.

i watched a lot of Colbert's speech again last night.  you're right, it was pure awesome.

Jimmy Falon actually turned it down first apparently.

His materiel was good although I thought going after Pelosi`s appearance was tactless. His delivery was poor.

Colbert was not a laugh riot.  It was, however, the best dressing down of a current President in front of said President in history.

Obama's timing is great. He's got chops for this sort of thing.

Or maybe he does.  His chief value is his name and branding.  Can't "afford" to be mocked.

But Occam's Razor says you're probably right - humorless, egotistical fakhead with thin skin.

Obligatory.  Sadly, it doesn't appear to be the full bit.

I may have to open a twatter account now. I've always been recultant to open a twatter account, as I afraid that I would like twat so much that I would become obsessed and want twat all the time.

To be fair, his jokes weren't landing.  It seemed like they were written for the canned The Soup audience.  Still funny, just not as funny as expected.

Obama definitely had the better writers, but McHale was not boring.

I wonder what the overlap on The Soup, Community, and CSpan viewers is. Probably just me and my wife.

Obama's sharpest barbs always seem to be reserved for Mitch McConnell.  And deservedly so.

2014-05-05 10:13:56 AM
McHale's jokes were funny but his delivery was weak. But that's better than weak jokes with good delivery.

Washington insiders assessing his performance may be the biggest joke of all.

Ha!

It sort of fell flat because nobody knew what was happening but I loved when Obama brought out Kathleen Sebelius to fix the computer glitch with the presentation. Partly because it was funny and partly because I could imagine Fox News viewers turning purple. Good lord, I've sunk to their level. This is not a proud day.

Does this occur during a long S&M session?

Colbert's best joke was where he mocked journalists:

"Here's how it works. The president makes decisions. He's the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the Administration? You know, fiction!"

Exactly what I was thinking, they aren't known for their humor and Obama wasn't funny at all

2014-05-05 10:24:50 AM
He got some good lines and some great sting, but god damn, a lot of his jokes just felt flat, expecially near the end. Felt sorry for him at that silence.

That was insulting to most and mocking the fact their site was a clusterfark and overpaid for such a shiatty design.

But then most government websites are piss poor design.

2014-05-05 10:27:21 AM
Obama killed it, I haven't seen McHale's bit yet.

2014-05-05 10:27:43 AM
The correspondents only laugh at Obama's jokes because they are required to. No one wants to be seen not laughing.

2014-05-05 10:28:02 AM
Colbert's wasn't "funny" because it wasn't filled with jokes.  It was truth... because he has big brass balls.

I had to google to find out who Joel McHale even is.  I didn't even know that TV show was still a thing.
